Dwight York was born in the distant exotic country of Trinidad and Tobago, an island nation located in the southern Caribbean (off the northern coast of South America). Like most future great football players, the boy grew up in poverty. In addition to him, the family had eight more children. From early childhood he raved about football. Dwight believed that only being able to pursue a real professional football career, you can break out of vegetation, something has been prepared for most of his peers.
And to begin, in his opinion, this same career should be with the acquisition of at least a pair of real football boots. Therefore, in order to bring the desired moment closer, you need to earn money for these boots. And for this there was only one opportunity - to collect crabs on the seashore so that to buy the game ammunition for the proceeds from their sale.
The story did not preserve reliable information whether Dwight played barefoot or in boots, being a schoolboy in the village of Bon Accord, but later, while attending a comprehensive school in Signal Hill, he actively played as part of a local youth team that had full football equipment. Otherwise, the match that completely changed the life of the young guy would have been impossible. And I had to play not with anyone, but with one of the best teams in England.
In 1989, Trinidad and Tobago was selected as the pre-season training center for Aston Villas. Here, Graham Taylor's team, in preparation for the football season, held a series of friendly matches with local clubs. It so happened that one of the fights fell on a meeting with the Signal Hill team, in which our hero took part. The irony was that the local youth single-handedly torn one of the best defensive lines of the English championship.
History did not save the final result of that match, but determined the fate of Dwight York. Since December 1989, he became a football player at Aston Villa.
