Hundreds of thousands of people daily descend to this station from the surface, and vice versa. Even more simply pass her by train. And not everyone knows why they want to rename it for several years. But this is worth saying a little later, but for now you need to remember how she appeared on the map of the Moscow metro.
History
The Voikovskaya metro station was opened on the last day of 1964, although it was conceived back in 1938. Several times the plans changed, its location could be completely different, at some point as many as two stations in the area could appear on the map, but in the end everything was approved in the form that we are familiar with now. The station got its name from the nearby Moscow iron foundry named after Voikov, which, in turn, was named after the fiery revolutionary Pyotr Lazarevich, a diplomatic worker and active associate of V.I. Lenin.
Some time after the opening, plans appeared to build a branch to the west, towards the Tushino area. However, they later abandoned this, deciding to hold a separate branch in that direction. Near the station there are backlogs for connecting the tracks with another ring line, but, according to modern plans, the so-called Third Interchange Circuit will not pass through Voykovskaya.
Location area
So, when it became clear in honor of whom the Voykovskaya station was named, it is worth considering in more detail where it is located. It is located in the north of Moscow and stretches along the Leningrad highway. Not far from its vestibules there are several bus, trolley and tram stops , as well as a railway platform, so the Voykovskaya metro station is an element of a rather large transport hub.
Within walking distance from the stop is the popular Metropolis shopping center and the adjacent office building. Also near the southern exit from the station there is a Vorovskiy park, on the territory of which in the XIX century there was a clinic for alcoholics.
About name change
Those who are not strong in history are not aware of whose name the Voikovskaya station is named. The renaming, as well as the fact that disputes arise around it, may cause surprise among the ignorant. But for several years now, public figures have raised the question of changing the name of all points of the transport hub. The option "Koptevo" was proposed. This was due to the inadmissibility of how activists declared that important objects in the capital should bear the name of a terrorist who participated in the execution of the royal family and was noticed in some more not too specious acts. Whether this is fair or not is difficult to judge, it is difficult to say exactly how many years Voikov’s role in the destruction of the Russian monarchy was. But disputes, however, do not subside, and the parties offer a variety of options.
At the end of 2015, on the basis of the Active Citizen platform, voting on this issue was completed, the results of which showed that 53% of Muscovites oppose the name change. An alternative survey conducted by independent media has generally confirmed these statistics. This, however, did not put an end to this discussion - a variety of people advocate changing the name of the stations, offering to perpetuate the name of the recently deceased Eldar Ryazanov.
Following the transport hub, it is proposed to rename the entire area. This entails not only difficulties, but also tangible expenses, so the issue remains extremely controversial and controversial, attracting a lot of public attention.
Incidents
Station "Voikovskaya" has become a place with which some fairly well-known Muscovites are associated. Over the past decade, the following has happened here:
- In 2006, on a Sokol-Voikovskaya stage, a concrete pile fell into the tunnel and damaged one of the passing cars. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
- In 2013, a video was shot on the platform of Voykovskaya as a biker riding a motorcycle on a platform, which is forbidden by the rules for using the subway and is simply dangerous. A month later, the culprit was detained for hooliganism.
Development prospects
Despite its rather important role and good location, the Voikovskaya station is unlikely to receive its development in the coming years as part of the subway. The third interchange circuit will pass through Dynamo; nothing is said about connecting to other lines either. Nevertheless, as part of the development of urban infrastructure and plans to integrate the Moscow Ring Small Ring into the transport network, the station may receive a rebirth, although now it does not lack passengers, especially on weekends when people go shopping and go to the cinema located in SEC "Metropolis".
