Diplomatic relations with Russia

The beginning of international relations between Russia and Mexico was the arrival on the coast of Mexico in the spring of 1806 of the Russian ship "Juno", the captain of which was Nikolai Rozanov. He laid the preconditions for establishing diplomatic relations.

The first diplomatic negotiations of the countries took place in the late 1920s in London. However, the full-scale establishment of interstate relations took place only on December 11, 1890. At the beginning of the 20th century, they were supplemented by the opening of consulates in Russia and Mexico.

In 1924, the Mexican United States became the first country in the Americas to establish diplomatic relations with the USSR.

They were interrupted in 1930. At that time, the anti-government activities of the Mexican left forces found support in the USSR, which displeased the Mexican authorities and caused the severance of diplomatic relations.

In 1942 they were fully renewed. The first USSR Embassy in Latin America was established in Mexico.
