SE "Malyshev Plant" is known as a major manufacturer of armored vehicles and power plants for tanks, armored personnel carriers, diesel locomotives. In Soviet times, it was a leading defense enterprise. Located in Kharkov, Ukraine.
Becoming
The creation of the Malyshev plant dates back to 1895, when the production of steam locomotives and related equipment opened in Kharkov near the central station. In 1911, the company mastered the production of gas engines and diesel generators.
In Soviet years, the organization was called "Malyshev Transport Engineering Plant". In the factory design bureau, the T-34 tank was developed and subsequently introduced into the series. An important area of โโwork was the manufacture of oil and gas equipment.
Before the war, ZIM remained a large production site with a wide range of products. In its workshops assembled steam locomotives, crawler tractors, engines (including marine). The development of cast armor manufacturing technologies contributed to the development of tank building at the enterprise.
Evacuated to the Urals to the Great Patriotic Plant named after Malyshev, where he continued to produce T-34 and its modifications. After the war, production was restored to its former place.
Development
After the war, for the first time in the USSR, the production of trunk diesel locomotives of the TE series and D100 diesel engines for them, producing 2000 liters, was launched for the first time in the USSR. from. The era of locomotives was drawing to a close. Since the 50s, the development of tractors has been actively conducted. In particular, the Kharkovchanka snowmobile was used in Antarctica. BTM-3 tractors were developed for the army.
With increasing international tension, the Malyshev plant in Kharkov again had to develop armored vehicles. Since 1964, T-64 tanks have been produced, and production of 5TDF turbo-piston diesel engines with a capacity of 700 liters has been launched here. from. In the 80s, the engineers of the enterprise constructed a unique T-80UD tank, which was distinguished by high speed thanks to the unique 6TD-1 diesel engine.
The technique of that period underlies the modernized modern models Oplot, Bulat, and Yatagan. Today, the SE "Malyshev Plant" continues the evolutionary development of tanks and light armored vehicles.
Modern heavy armored vehicles
The company produces:
- The main tank of the Oplot series. It is based on the T-80UD model, which underwent a thorough modernization. The power unit has become even more powerful, its design perfectly withstands elevated temperatures, which gives advantages when operating in hot regions. Improved optoelectronic systems and sighting systems, enhanced armor protection.
- The Yatagan tank is designed according to NATO standards (it has a 120 mm cannon). Unitary shots of various types are placed in the automatic loader at the rear of the turret (22 shots), the rest in mechanized laying of the hull.
- Tank "Bulat" (modernized T-64B). His reservation was strengthened by establishing passive protection, installing dynamic protection and an air defense system. Improved aiming and fire control systems. With the installation of the 5TD engine, mobility increased.
Light armored vehicles
This category includes:
- BTR-4 - all-wheel drive, armored, floating vehicle class 8x8. The armored personnel carrier is created as the basic unit of the new generation. The design and layout of the machine allow without significant changes to produce modifications that differ in the level of protection and installed weapons. This makes it possible to use it in motorized rifle units of the ground forces as a highly protected vehicle, or infantry fighting vehicle. A large net volume of the housing provides the placement of various equipment.
- Dozor-B is a relatively light 4x4 class armored vehicle with a carrying capacity of 2 tons. It is used to deliver military equipment, weapons, and personnel.
- BMP-2 modernized. Thanks to design changes and a more powerful 3TD motor, the mobility of the model increased. Engineers of the Malyshev plant adapted the engine to hot climatic conditions.
- BTR-50 (OT-62 Topaz). The purpose of modernization is to improve the tactical, technical and operational characteristics of BTR-50 armored personnel carriers previously released and discontinued. Combat capabilities are enhanced by replacing a standard power plant with a B-6 engine and a five-speed gearbox.

Modernization
The enterprise is updating production facilities. Over the past year, the equipment was repaired for 2.1 million hryvnia. CNC-machines for plasma cutting were purchased, which allowed to accelerate the cutting and cutting operations of sheet metal, including armored steel. This allowed us to change the technological route itself and achieve a higher quality of manufacturing complex parts.
