What is suicide, its causes

Unfortunately, a phenomenon such as suicide is now quite common. At the same time, a large percentage of suicides, according to statistics, occur in adolescence. Knowing what suicide is and what its causes are quite important, especially for people working with teenagers (teachers, psychologists , etc.), as well as parents.

The reason why most often it is adolescents who intentionally deprive themselves of life is because this age is characterized by instability of the psyche, self-determination, the search for the meaning of their being, strong feelings (including regarding interpersonal relationships). However, adults commit suicide, mainly because of the problems that appear to them insoluble (debts, divorce, etc.). In some cases, suicide can be attributed to a progressive mental illness or exposure to psychoactive substances.

It is worth a little more detail on the term itself. Suicide is understood not only as a deprivation of life, but also failed attempts (psychologists call this unfinished suicide). It’s quite difficult to see that a person is really preparing for suicide. To understand this, you need to know the causes of suicide. Among them, one can note the loss of a loved one, religious fanaticism, and a depressed state. In adolescents, it can even be such a trifle as unrequited love or a quarrel with relatives. In the latter case, they thus try to draw the attention of adults to themselves, "punish" them, not fully understanding what they are doing, or hoping for salvation.

I must say what suicide is demonstrative. This is such an attempt to take the life, which is often planned as a way to attract the attention of others, in most cases, not brought to the end. People who decide to take this step often start talking about methods of suicide, trying to make others understand what they were planning so that they could be stopped. In most cases, the cause of suicide here is a kind of "blackmail". So, adolescents can say to parents: β€œDon’t give (let, buy ...) me something, I will cut my veins ...” Of course, on the one hand, you shouldn’t trust these words too much, however, on the other hand, the person who uttered such a phrase, not having received the desired, can really try to do something with himself.

Suicide prevention today is quite relevant and is carried out in educational and social institutions, especially where there is a contingent belonging to the risk group. Psychologists, psychiatrists, and also pedagogical workers are engaged in suicide prevention. About a quarter of cases of deprivation of life are committed under the influence of psychoactive substances, therefore, work on drug prevention among young people is important.

Speaking about the psychology of suicide, it is necessary to say about what is hidden suicide. This phrase refers to such self-destructive behavior of a person that can lead to the deprivation of life. This includes fast driving, drug use, aggression, etc. Usually such people adhere to risky behavior, which may result in an accident leading to death. This may be a manifestation of subconscious unwillingness to live.

Knowing what suicide is and what its causes are important enough to prevent this problem. It is also recommended to take into account such features of human behavior that may demonstrate his desire to end his life. Usually true suicides try to put their affairs in order, often talk about death, come to see relatives, even if they had little contact before. Having seen alarm signs, relatives or acquaintances need to talk with a person, try to recommend him to consult a psychologist, find out the reasons that push him to this step, try to help correct the situation.
