You have harvested apples. Jam and compotes are cooked, but the apples are left. What else can be made of this healthy fruit besides jams, jellies and dried fruits? For example, apple wine at home, or cider in another way. Cider is a drink with a low alcohol content. Such a drink is prepared mainly from apple juice, but there are exceptions. Apple juice is fermented without adding yeast, resulting in a tasty and light drink.
Wine from apples at home has a low cost and a variety of tastes, depending on the type of apples used. Sugar is added to apple juice and fermented. The result of these procedures is a drink with a strength of about 6%, golden color and a deep apple flavor. Depending on how much sugar is in the drink, cider is divided into several types:
- Cider in its purest form. It is prepared without water.
- Cider diluted. A small amount of water is added.

You can use any apples. Cut each into four pieces and place in a clean canvas bag. Tie the bag tightly. Place in enameled dishes. Cover apples from above with a wooden circle, preferably with a net, press down with a load. Then pour the syrup made from boiled water and honey. Cover with a cloth. Leave to roam in a cool place for five weeks. After this time, drain the cider into a clean bowl. Pour the remaining pulp again with the same syrup in an amount equal to the drained cider. Five weeks later, drain the finished cider again. Pour the pulp a third time. After all this, mix all three ciders with each other. Put to settle for nine months. When the cider is completely fermented, bottle it, close the lids and let it sit for another four weeks in the cold to stop the fermentation process.
Mixed cider - from apples and pears
You will need:
- apples and pears (apples should be one third more);
- water;
- elderberry flowers;
- coriander.
In order not to add sugar, take sweet pears and sour apples. Rinse the fruit. Remove the peel, seeds, rotten parts. Grind in mashed potatoes. Transfer to an enameled bowl, cover with a piece of gauze. Put in a warm place for two days. Remember to mix the mass every five hours. Then put the mashed potatoes under the press, pour the resulting juice into a glass jar. Pour water by the amount of the resulting wort, mix. Leave the wort to roam for five days. In the resulting cider, put the elderberry and coriander, placing the spices in a gauze bag. At the end of the fermentation, strain the cider. Pour into suitable containers with plugs. Leave to insist in a dark place for another month. Then you can drink it.
