How to feed beets for a good harvest

Beetroot is one of the most popular root crops among our summer residents. You can meet her in almost every area. This plant is not too whimsical, but for many gardeners, especially beginners, the question may arise: how to feed the beets in such a way as to collect the largest possible yield? In fact, fertilizing this crop is important, as it responds to them very well. At the same time, the plant loves both organic and mineral fertilizers.

So, how to feed beets? Preparing the soil for it should begin in the fall. To do this, manure is scattered over the site on which this crop will be planted in spring, and then the soil is dug up. Agronomists consider such an event mandatory. Manure for digging is the main type of top dressing of this culture. Fertilizing during the growing season is also necessary. However, in this case, this process is considered additional.

To the question of how to feed beets, there is another answer. Together with manure in the autumn, mineral fertilizers should also be used on the site under it . The best choice at the moment would be phosphorus-potash. Nitrogen fertilizers, for example, sodium nitrate, are used in the spring, immediately before planting. Sodium nitrate, by the way, is one of the most preferred beet top dressings. This culture absorbs a lot of sodium during growth. At the same time, boron top dressing can be used. They, like nitrogen, are more often brought into the ground. But if you wish, you can simply treat them with seeds.

Beet top dressing during the growing season is also carried out to a large extent with mineral fertilizers. Of particular importance in this regard is the period from the second half of July to the beginning of August. This is exactly the time when beets are actively developing root crops. In order for them to grow strong and tasty, it is worth fertilizing beets with ammonium nitrate and superphosphate. The same two types of top dressing are sometimes used at the initial stage of growth, but only if there is a visible delay in the development of plants.

It is important not only to know how to feed the beets, but also how to do it. The roots of this plant, and even if it is weakened, should not be touched. Therefore, fertilizers are applied to the grooves made on both sides of the rows.

Their depth should be 4 cm. From the rows of beets they are placed at a distance of 7 cm. Superphosphate is introduced into one of the grooves, and saltpeter is introduced into the second. The latter, if absent, can be replaced with urea. Next, the grooves are closed and watered.

In the event that for some reason you do not want to feed this crop with mineral fertilizers, you can use ordinary ash. It is brought in a glass per meter row. You can use this fertilizer at any time during the growing season. A good solution would also be the use of bird droppings (1 * 10) or mullein (1 * 8). The application rate in this case is 1 liter per meter row.

No less important than top dressing is watering beets. This culture is undemanding in this regard. However, in order for the plants to receive all the nutrients they need, they need to be watered at least once a week. At the same time, beds are poured very strongly. It is best to use warm water. The frequency of watering should be increased to 3 per week in hot weather.
