Medicinal herbs have been known for centuries. The first medical treaty to reach us is the Sumerian tablet with several prescriptions. The clay find dates back to the III millennium BC. e. The plant, which will be discussed in this article, has been known since about the same time for its medicinal properties. The properties of celandine, however, much later - in the II century BC. e., very accurately described Avicenna.
A bit of history
Let's make a brief excursion into history. Claudius Galen (II century) is deservedly considered the founder of pharmacy. He was the first to propose separating the beneficial principles from the useless and harmful ones by drying and evaporation. It was Galen who introduced tinctures and extracts. An outstanding doctor, he wrote two books in which he spoke in detail about medicinal plants. Galen's works have long been “handbooks” for other healers. Claudius paid tribute to the healing properties of celandine.
The healing properties of the plant, based on the research of Galen, were described in more detail in his "Medical Book" by the Czech medic Jan Cerny (XVI century). The ancient Aesculapius agreed that celandine is useful for toothache, gastrointestinal diseases and jaundice, sharpens eyesight, reduces “eyesore”, crushes kidney stones, cleans “airways” and “brain”, “dissolves tumors”, “drives urine” .
In Russia, the first medical treatise appeared in the X century. It was translated from Greek for Prince Svyatoslav and was called "The Svyatoslav Collection". Soon herbalists appeared. The first recorded recipes used by the healers in Russia date back to the 13th century. Celandine here was called in different ways: red-shrimp, warthog, yellow euphorbia, gusset, chistoplot, tawny, cleanse, etc. Warts and papillomas were removed by juice, rash, purulent wounds, fungal skin lesions were treated. Decoction and infusion of the plant was used as a choleretic, diuretic and painkiller.
