How to learn to skate: practical tips for beginners

When winter comes, a person has a desire to skate. This strengthens health, and raises the mood, and good pastime is provided. The only trouble is that not everyone knows how to stand on skates. Realizing that we need to learn this, many reach the ice rinks, arguing that “I’ll never succeed in skating”. But why, after all, once everyone did not know how to stand, and when they learned, they were surprised at how not to love this sport.

You do not know how to learn to skate? Do not worry, spending a little free time, you can quickly master the elementary movements that will allow you to stand steady on the ice.

Choosing skates

To get started, you have to get acquainted with how to choose skates. Since you are a beginner, for starters you can rent skates, but you can buy it. In fact, any skates are suitable for skating, be it hockey, figure skating or for free skating. True, the last option will be the most suitable for you, but you are not going to make complex movements and turns. Buy skates only by the size of your legs. Many believe that they should be one or two sizes larger, but this is fundamentally a false statement. In such skates you will not only feel uncomfortable, but you will not avoid the appearance of bloody corns. The skates on the leg should sit tight, to fix them, it is necessary to tie the shoelaces tightly.

Training

Since learning to skate is not a day's work, you will have to visit the rink at least twice a week. Frequent training is the key to good success. For classes, choose non-populated skating rinks or a time when the number of tourists on them is small. If you have the opportunity, you can hire an instructor who can put you on the ice in a couple of lessons. You can seek help from a friend who has been ice skating for a long time. But if both of these options are inappropriate in your case, you will have to learn on your own.

Asking himself the question: "How to learn to skate?" and having bought skates, you can safely go to the rink, where the real challenges await you. And only having gathered your will into a fist, you will be able to overcome them. Yes, it will be difficult, but it will have to be patient.

Learning to ride

Put on your skates and lace them tightly. Poorly drawn skates will block your movement. Now go to the rink, but do not immediately go into battle. Limit yourself to the counter at the side. This is necessary so that your feet get used to the new “shoes” and also feel the ice.

Since you cannot stand in this position all the time, you still have to tear yourself away from the side. Release your hands and bend your knees. Note that only on bent knees can you learn to skate. You won’t be able to ride on straight legs ; the only thing that awaits you is a fall. So, the legs are bent, what to do next? Try to make small movements, setting a goal not to drive a long distance, but to stay on your feet and not fall. By the way, you will have more than one landing on the ice, as learning to skate without falls is simply impossible. By the way, one also needs to be able to fall. Try to do it sideways, but not your back.

Having mastered a little, start moving. Remember one more thing, it is not necessary to carry out movements with teeth, but do not write off the ride. Wait a moment, and then try again. Along the way, your body itself will tell you how and what to do. The main thing here is training. Once you have skated once, do not abandon everything, but continue to firmly go towards your goal.

And a few words about braking. The easiest option is to drive to the side. If you want to stop in the middle of the rink, then try to bend the skate socks slightly forward on bent legs. Well, or wait until the skates themselves stop. This is quite enough for a beginner.

Do not doubt that you will succeed. True, do not demand too much from yourself. All the same, you cannot immediately learn how to sharpen skates or make a difficult turn. Everything will come with time, just as faith in one’s abilities. And it doesn’t matter if you are twenty or forty.
