The biography of the first Chechen Olympic medalist in freestyle wrestling did not begin so stellarly. In the courtyard of 1962, on January 2, the 10th child was born in a family of returnees from Kazakhstan, living in the small village of Mezhevoy, Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. As the older brother of Adlan Varaev told, he was born weighing a little more than 1.5 kg. Four months later, the whole family moved to the Second Dairy Plant near Grozny. When the father of the family died six years later, the mother had to bear all the hardships of raising a large family alone.
The Thorny Path to Glory
At the age of 14, following the example of his elder brother, Bashir began to engage in wrestling, and he was very lucky to get to Degi Imranovich Bagaev, the founder of this sport in Chechen-Ingushetia.
On the first day, the future champion did not yet know any tricks, but only knew how to make stretch marks, although he could immediately get out of any position. Here's how the skills gained in regular fights with peers come in handy. In just three days, the coach put the newcomer to the regional Spartak competitions, where Adlan immediately showed his fighting character.
At the competitions among young men, Adlan Varaev was the smallest in his weight: only 38 kg with a minimum of 45 kg for the lightest category. They did not want to take him seriously. He recalled that time with sadness, because at the championship of the RSFSR in Tuapse the “underweight” was openly condemned, despite the brilliant ability to put all opponents on the shoulder blades. He began to win his first victories only a year later, then Varaev became the champion of the USSR at the Youth Championship "Friendship".
Problems with heart
Soon I had to change my coach. This event so crippled the athlete's fighting spirit that he abandoned training for a whole year. This is because he treated Degi Imranovich not just as a coach, but as a father.
Leaving the big sport did not work out thanks to the occasion. The young athlete was in a hospital bed in the cardiology department due to interruptions in the work of the heart caused by heavy loads.
Then Adlan Abuevich saw how one by one they were taking away the dying patients and suddenly realized that tying up with sports for him was a sentence. And in the hospital he promised himself to return to the carpet at all costs.
Since Adlan joined the Olympic team, he began to train with a vengeance. Thus began the sports career of the first Olympic medalist among Chechen fighters, a real Mohchi, who until the last defended the honor of his proud people.
Unbending will
What is a sport? Sport is the education of courage and willingness to sacrifice oneself, even if the forces are running out. Just before the peak of his career, another tragic event occurred in the personal life of a fighter. The death of the mother. He was just at international competitions (Goodwill Games) in 1986 in Moscow, when terrible news was reported from Grozny. An unexpected blow for 1.5 months completely unsettled even such a courageous person. With the support of loved ones, Varaev was able to urgently prepare for the World Cup in Budapest and win silver there. By the way, he became the only winner in the last 12 years in his weight category from all Soviet athletes!

However, the load was so frantic that it did not pass without a trace for health. I had to visit the hospital again, now to them. Burdenko. The athlete was treated for two long months. Then, as befits real heroes, Adlan Varayev promised that if he did not become the world champion in a year, it would be called Adlan, but Fatimat!
And he, fortunately, kept his promise by winning the 1987 world title in France. Having completed his sports career in 1992 at the CIS Championship in Moscow, he took the post of first vice president of the Russian Wrestling Federation.
Sports achivments
Champions medals are always difficult to get, so many professional athletes, not sparing themselves, drive away every extra gram of fat, train for wear. From his youth, Adlan had heart problems, but he was able to resist them and still went down in the history of domestic sports as an outstanding athlete.

Unfortunate Shot
