A monster is also a person, at least in formal terms. Today we consider the origin and essence of the concept.
Restless
The word grows from Old Slavonic, where there was a noun “izvrg” and the verb “izvrgati”, that is, “throw out”. A monster, respectively, is the one who was thrown out, rejected by society. Since then, little has changed.
People are rejected by society, and they, due to isolation of the physical or psychological, turn into animals. At the present stage of development of society, a similar scrapping happens in childhood, as a rule. If we analyze the biographies of maniacs, rarely one of the renegades of the human race can boast a happy childhood.
Value
The explanatory dictionary, like you and me, honors traditions. Therefore, there are two values of the object of study:
- Rejected by anyone or anything. Currently obsolete and still bookish. For example: "Monster of humanity."
- Angry, cruel man. For example: “Look, think again, our boss is a monster.”
It is easy to see that at the moment the concept in question is used exclusively in the second meaning. Sometimes a noun is freed from its direct meaning and used as an ironic edifying. For example, when a small child bites painfully, we use the word “monster” (this is a kind of stop signal) to show him: he has crossed a certain line and is about to be punished. But in this case we are not talking about the fact that the child is a villain. Although, of course, here is how to look. Maybe, over time, if the aggressive impulses do not fade away, then he will become a full-fledged criminal.
Monster competition in the film “Silence of the Lambs” (1991)
The film is bewitching. And the most interesting thing about her is that one maniac catches another. Hannibal Lecter is scary, but Buffalo Bill is even worse. Although here you can argue. But, anyway, if you need an example of a tormenting monster, then revisit the wonderful film with Anthony Hopkins.

Still, a few words must be said about the degree of horror of the characters. Lecter, although terrible, but at least he can control himself. The doctor is quirky, cunning, sane, despite the obvious. Buffalo Bill, by contrast, is a fairly young killer, and therefore spontaneous behavior is characteristic of him. He is attracted to the dark chaos of evil, in addition, he probably likes the fact that the FBI has almost no leads. The psychiatrist does not allow himself this. It has long been held as a monster - this is a natural conclusion. Usually the viewer watches a film and cheers for Clarissa Starling, this is quite natural, but the movie can also be viewed from the angle of confrontation between the two maniacs.
