History

The historical park area - Silver-Grape Ponds - is one of the oldest city attractions in Moscow. In the 17th century, this place was a country estate of the Russian Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich.
The great Peter I spent his childhood here. Here he first became acquainted with the basics of seafaring, riding on an old English boat found in an ordinary barn. This place was named "The Cradle of the Russian Navy."
In the second half of the 20th century, the existing buildings were restored on the island, new sports grounds and a stadium were built. They strengthened the coast and cleaned the bottom of the reservoir, built two boat stations, organized park recreation areas and a beach for the city. Today this place is a manor monument.

Silver Grape Ponds are mostly famous for the fact that a variety of exotic southern vegetables and fruits, including grapes, were grown in these gardens.
During the construction of the royal estate, the local river was blocked by a grape dam, and in the channel above this dam a Grape Pond was created. At that time, beautiful vines of grapes were reflected in its waters. It was a spectacle of extraordinary beauty! Soon, the two ponds merged to form an island.

Silver pond has an area of 17.5 hectares, an average depth of 2.5 meters, a shallow and sandy bottom. This pond feeds on ground and surface waters and water from a water supply system. The shores of the pond are well reinforced with reinforced concrete slabs. The 1st Bauman bridge is also located here.
There are sandy beaches, a playground for children with a variety of small architectural buildings, two football fields. There is a playground on the banks of the Silver Grape Pond for volleyball and basketball.

Bauman Town
Silver-Grape Pond is also famous for the fact that on the territory of the island there was once a working town.
Back in the 1920s, during the Soviet era, good living conditions were created for the working class of the largest industrial enterprises to live. From poor barracks and dugouts, they moved to new neighborhoods specially built for them near the place of work.
A camp for workers was organized on the island of the pond in 1924. 3000 people lived in it - these are workers of the Moscow electric lamp factory with their families. They lived in these royal chambers, in this estate of the 17th century.
Of course, after the war in 1945, new houses were built in Izmailovo for the employees of MELZ, but these communal apartments of the town named after Bauman (Russian revolutionary) were completely resettled only in the 1970s.
Today on the island is the Izmailovo estate, the Academy of Restoration, a branch of the State Historical Museum. The wooden buildings and the royal palace of those times, unfortunately, have not been preserved.
