Station history

The decision to create the station was made by Moscow Mayor Sobyanin in May 2012. The active phase of work was begun in October of that year. At first it was supposed to be opened at the end of December 2013, however, due to problems with the transfer of ownership of adjacent land plots, the completion of construction was planned for autumn 2014. The construction went from the Zhulebino station. The length of the tunnel under construction was 900 meters. Construction went on in an open way. The station opened on September 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. This stop was the 197th Moscow metro station.

Station construction

Kotelniki metro station was temporarily closed from 10.28 to 11.3.2017 in connection with the construction of another metro line. The Kotelniki station was a continuation of the violet line of the Moscow metro. She follows the Zhulebino station, opened in 2013.

Station Features

The Kotelniki station belongs to double-span subway stops and is located at a depth of 15 meters underground. Its structure is similar to that at the neighboring Zhulebino stop. But the color scheme is brighter, the columns are rounded, and the ceiling is straightforward. Red granite is used to finish the floor. For cladding the walls of the hall, marble and granite were used. The station is made in relatively light colors. There are decorative accessories made of stainless steel.

The station itself is located under the city of Kotelniki, belonging to the Moscow region. Exit to Kotelniki is a small enclosed pavilion overlooking the square. The steps on the stairs of the pavilion are equipped with a heating device. There are also exits to the city of Lyubertsy and Moscow. The underground part of the station has 2 vestibules.

There are additional points at the station that are not directly related to its operation. These are vending machines where you can order coffee and ice cream, and an apparatus for wrapping umbrellas in polyethylene film. Such a device is an innovation and has not been used at any station before. It is assumed that if the experiment is successful, then they can be introduced at other stops of the Moscow metro. You can also order hot chocolate, fruit drink, black leaf tea, coffee with chocolate and chocolate with milk. The minimum price is for tea, and the maximum is for flat white coffee.

Entrance turnstiles have devices designed for bank cards. An iron bench is provided for seating at the station. Near it is a miniature subtropical tree. There is no landscaping at other metro stations. Another unusual feature of Kotelnikov is a plate for train passengers. It is written not just the name of the station, but “Kotelniki station”, that is, the word “station” is added in front of its name.

Another unusual object is the so-called warehouse of forgotten things, which used to be located at the University station. Things lost by passengers at stops and in cars are stored here for six months.

Prospects

In order to increase transport accessibility, it is planned to build a bus station and parking in the future. Additional exits will lead to them. This will put an end to deciding how to get to the Kotelniki metro station.
