BPC Admiral Chabanenko is the only large anti-submarine ship of the Russian Navy, built in 1992 under the project 1155.1. He is serving in the Northern Fleet at number 650. He bears the name of the Soviet admiral Chabanenko Andrey Trofimovich.
The ship's task is to counter the underwater and surface forces of the enemy.
History of the creation of the BOD
In the 70s, countries with naval forces came to the conclusion that building ships specialized for a specific task is too expensive. Therefore, it was decided to build multi-purpose vessels, including by Soviet designers. Thus was born project 1155 for the creation of a multi-purpose ship.
However, some production and technical problems got in the way of this idea. And yet, in the late 80s, the USSR began work on project 1155, the result of which was to be a large anti-submarine ship.
The head of the work was entrusted to V.P. Mishin. After handing over to the fleet the leading one in this series of BOD, “Udalo”, Mishin took up the issues of modernization of this series. The first design sketches presented a completely different ship, outwardly similar to the "Daring", but still different from it.
But that was the first impression. The main innovations were hidden from prying eyes. The hull contained a modern power plant, a powerful sonar system, a general ship air defense control system, and other combat systems created on a digital element base. At its core, it was a new project targeting the US destroyers Orly Burke and Sprouts.
According to the chief designer of project 1155, Mishin V.P., the Soviet multi-purpose ship was in no way inferior to the American Orly Burke, and in some matters could even give him a head start.
At the end of 1992, the BOD was launched. By tradition, he was named after one of the famous Soviet naval commanders.
To whom the ship owes its name
The large anti-submarine ship owes its name to the commander of the Northern Fleet A.T. Chabanenko, who held this position from 1952 to 1962.
Andrey Trofimovich was born in Ukraine on October 17, 1909. From his youth, he connected his fate with the navy. After the naval school he served as an officer on submarines (submarines) of the Black Sea Fleet.
At 24, he was entrusted with command of a submarine in the Pacific Fleet. Five years later, the submarine division was already subordinate to him, and in 1940 the brigade.
At 35, Chabanenko received the title of Rear Admiral.
After the war, Andrei Trofimovich undergoes academic courses at the Naval Academy and is appointed commander of the South Sakhalin Naval Base. At the end of 1947, the officer was sent to the General Staff Academy. After its completion, took command of the Northern Fleet.
During the period of command of the fleet, Chabanenko did a great job of deploying naval bases, developed tactics for submarine actions and practiced it, prepared and carried out the first polar campaigns of nuclear submarines.
State tests
In 1995, BPC Admiral Chabanenko was put to sea trials, the delivery of which lasted for many years. Their financial support quickly ran out, and the ship stood for several years “on jokes” near the wall of the Yantar plant.
Only the intervention of the Commander- in- Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Kuroyedov, moved the issue off the ground. Financing issues were immediately resolved. State tests were conducted at the highest level. All necessary arrived as soon as possible.
The Baltic Fleet allocated a submarine, surface ships, aircraft to verify the tactical and technical data of the new BOD. All types of firing were carried out, all systems were checked, including air defense. Anti-aircraft defense was checked by the ship’s flyby by all types of aircraft. Ka-27 helicopters have successfully verified the compliance of runways with standards.
After a successful epic with state tests, the ship was sent to the Northern Fleet for further service.
Technical equipment and characteristics of the ship
"Admiral Chabanenko" - a ship capable of autonomous navigation for 30 days. The movement can be carried out in two modes: marching and afterburner. For this, two-shaft gas turbine power plants of the COGAG type are installed on the BOD: two marching M-63s of 9 thousand liters each. from. and two afterburners M8KF of 22 thousand liters each. from.
Power plants allow you to develop a maximum running speed of 32 knots. In economy mode, the speed is 18 knots.
The standard displacement of the ship is 7700 tons, total - 8900 tons.
The distance from the bow to the stern of Admiral Chabanenko is 163.4 m. The breadth of the vessel is 19.5 m.
There are two airstrips for anti-submarine Ka-27 helicopters at the stern.
The crew of the ship consists of 296 people.
Project 1155 anti-submarine weapon upgrades
When designing the ship, the designers tried to take into account the shortcomings of the Bold "Remote", created by project 1155.
First of all, attention was paid to weapons. As a result, they refused two artillery mounts (AU) with a caliber of 100 mm, replacing them with a paired 130 mm mount. The Metel anti-submarine missile system (PLRK) was replaced by the Mosquito anti-ship missile system.
Replaced 533 mm TA with anti-submarine RK "Waterfall".
Anti-aircraft weapons were strengthened by the Dagger anti-aircraft missile system. The 30 mm AK-630 installation was removed from the project.
The hydro-acoustic complex (SAC) “Polynomial” was also replaced by a more advanced “Star-2”.
The armament of the BOD project 1155.1
BOD has modern weapons, reflecting its multi-purpose nature.
First of all, it is Vodopad-NK with two missile and torpedo launchers - an anti-submarine complex.
The missiles of the complex are controlled by the sonar complex. They have two types of warheads: the 84P / RN missile - a deep bomb with a nuclear warhead, 83P / RN - a small-sized universal torpedo.
The complex is capable of hitting a target at a distance of 37-50 km.
The Udav-1 complex protects the ship from torpedoes and enemy saboteurs. It is represented by a 10-barrel rocket-bomb installation having a device for automatic loading and discharging.
Aiming at the target is performed by the HOOK. The target is neutralized at a distance of 3 km and a depth of up to 600 m with shells 111, 111, 111.
PU SAM "Dagger", is a multi-channel autonomous complex. Able to protect the ship from a massive attack from the air. It admires its versatility in hitting any air targets, from aircraft to controlled and unguided bombs.
The "Dagger" uses a multifunctional radar air defense system S-300F. In this case, target designation is adopted by the complex from any radar of the ship. He is able to hit up to four targets in a 60 degree sector.
The BPC Admiral Chabanenko is equipped with the Dagger anti-aircraft missile and artillery system. The complex protects the ship from precision weapons and aircraft. It can be used to destroy small targets at sea and on land.
The complex is fully automated. The radius of its action depends on the type of target and the weapons used and is 4-8 km.
Electronic weapons of the ship
Modern anti-submarine ships of Russia are blind and deaf without electronic weapons.
Under this concept are various systems that provide navigation, detection and targeting of missiles, a warning about laser radiation, etc.
For example, the Lumberjack-55 combat information management system (CIUS) serves to automatically develop recommendations for the crew on the most efficient use of the capabilities of the ship and its weapons.
The Frigate-MA radar station controls the air and surface space around the BOD. Having found the target, it issues a command to the fire weapons to repel an enemy attack. It works effectively even with intense radio countermeasures.
The ship is also equipped with a Corvette control system, gyrocompass systems Kurs-10A-1 and Kurs-10A-2.
The Kristall communications complex and the Sight-A space communications station provide communications in all conditions. Station "Sight-A" allows you to have a stable connection with anywhere in the world.
Service in the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy
From the moment of acceptance to the present day, the Admiral Chabanenko BPC has been guarding the northern sea borders of Russia as part of the Northern Fleet under number 650.
During the service, "Admiral Chabanenko" showed high crew training during exercises. The exercises were held not only as part of the naval formations of Russia, but also with foreign ships (for example, the exercises "VENRUS-2008).
Repeatedly visited foreign ports as part of a courtesy visit.
Between November 2009 and April 2010, he guarded civilian vessels in the Gulf of Aden.
Again on a long "joke"
Currently, Admiral Chabanenko is undergoing repairs at shipyard No. 35.
Unfortunately, the repair work resembles the time a ship undergoes state tests: shipbuilders call a three-year term for repairs. That is, in the best case, the ship will be back in service no earlier than 2017.
