History
For the first time such enterprises appeared in the UK. This happened at the beginning of the 19th century, and the creators were philanthropists who sought to improve the welfare of workers. But further more and more the initiative went already from ordinary workers, which gave them the opportunity to buy goods at low prices.
Then the principles were formed:
- small contributions of shares;
- limit on the number of shares;
- equality of participants and the presence of only one vote in the voting;
- reasonable prices;
- uniform prices for everyone, that is, not belonging to a cooperative either.
In the Soviet Union, by 1990, such a system served 40% of the population, and it included 30 million people. Consumer cooperation controlled a quarter of the retail trade turnover, half of the potato, a third of the purchase of vegetables, baked more than a third of the bread. Now in Russia there are more than 3 thousand such cooperatives.
