There are several thousand languages in the world, each of them is unique in its own way. Each of them has its own unique words. The mattress is a very old borrowing from the Turkish language, meaning "gun." In Russian, the word was first recorded in the Golitsyn annals in the description of the defense of Moscow in 1382. Compact firearms were produced in Asia (although later Europeans also chose it).
The mattresses were forged of copper and iron. The expanding muzzle of the structure had to be charged from the outside: they used small pebbles, it turned out something like a shotgun.
Gradually, another meaning of the word “mattress” appeared - the name of those who disgustingly shoots (the hunters knew the proverb “the mattress shoots, but the duck quacks everything”). If you adapt to Russian, then it's ironic to dub the muff with a “sniper”. Later, in spoken Russian, a second derivative of the same tüfek arose - "aunt" (and again means a lover to miss).

Shooting Turkish mattresses have nothing to do with Russian mattresses that bear the same name, up to the same emphasis on the last syllable.
Such a mattress is a bag of dense fabric, such as burlap, stuffed with straw or wool, so that you can sleep softly. Until the 17th century, mattresses could be seen in every house, until migrants from Germany mastered Russia and brought with them matratze, stitched over the entire surface - so the packing was not going to lumps. That is, technically, a mattress differs from a mattress in a line, therefore, concepts cannot be equated (which often happens in speech).
