One of the most picturesque places is the Big Simaginskoe lake. On hot days, dozens of people tend to get to the steep sandy shore, on which beautiful pine trees stand. But you can relax here, not only admiring nature. Many fishermen choose these places for their leisure.
Description of the lake
Big Simaginsky lake is located in the Leningrad region, in the Vyborgsky district. In the people it is known as Beauty. This is understandable, because this pond has golden beaches, and along the picturesque shores pine trees, spruce and other trees stretch into the sky. Also, the green surface of the water in some places is bordered by unusually beautiful cliffs.
The lake spread out over 2.5 km, and its width is slightly more than a kilometer. The total area of Beauty is 2.7 km 2 . The deepest place of the reservoir is 19 m. The eastern shores of the lake are very beautiful and high. Steep cliffs are densely covered with pine trees, and the forest reaches the Zelenogorsk highway.
On the south side, heading westward, the shore of the lake begins to decline, becoming less steep. In addition to pine trees, spruce trees appear on its shores, and birch trees stand in some areas closer to the water. Already on the western side, the coast becomes gentle and instead of the forest, meadows flooded with sunshine flaunt.
The beauty is replenished from the Yuli-Yoki River flowing into it. Also, Big Simaginskoe Lake has a flowing river Ala-Yoki, which goes to the Gulf of Finland.
Since the lake has high banks, the water mixes very poorly in it. That is why in the summer, the upper water layers can warm up to 23 degrees, and already at a depth of 8 meters the temperature is no more than 15 degrees.
Today, villas are being built around the lake in accessible places for this purpose. There is also a former children's camp on the shore.

In the summer, most vacationers prefer this particular lake. The fact is that there are many wide (up to 4 meters) sandy beaches, and the water itself allows you to feel at the resort. But at the same time, not everyone risks swimming here. The beauty has a bad reputation, because there are underwater cliffs, a double bottom, ice springs, which can cramp.
Fishing on the lake
Many fishermen living nearby go for catch on Lake Bolshoi Simaginskoe. Fishing here can be fun because there are pike, burbot, bream, silver bream, perch, rudd, ruff in the pond. But it’s best to go on such a “hunt” in the summer, since already at the end of spring the underwater inhabitants become active. You can use a boat for fishing, but also a good option for coastal fishing. Large predators are very rare here, but nevertheless no one is left empty-handed, because the bite is active.
Winter fishing is also practiced here, but the fish bite not so fast and fast, therefore, the effectiveness in cold weather is reduced.
How to get there?
The transportation issue may arise regardless of why you are going to the Big Simaginskoe Lake. How to get to your destination? Minibuses go from St. Petersburg to Ilyichev, but flights are not frequent. Therefore, many decide at first to get on a minibus to Zelenogorsk (1 hour on the way). From here you can take a taxi. It will cost inexpensively, since the distance to Illichyovo is 12 km. Ask to stop at a stop, there is a bus schedule back. After 15 minutes, you will find yourself on the lake.
Historical events
For some, the large Simagin lake is a historical value, since in the summer of 1917, Lenin was hiding in its environs. He took refuge in the village of Yalkala, on the northwest side of the reservoir. Back in the Soviet years, a memorial museum of V. I. Lenin was organized here, which in 1993 became a museum-reserve under the name “Yalkala”.
On the shores on the north side of the lake there is a village Ilyichevo. In this place, the State Hydrological Institute in the 50s arranged its own experimental base.
