Ghanaian midfielder Wakaso Mubarak

Wakaso Mubarak is a Ghanaian footballer playing for the Greek Panathinaikos. To Russian fans, he could be remembered for playing in the Kazan Rubin. Wakaso Mubarak is the central midfielder who can also play on the midfield flanks. Today he is 26 years old, so he still has enough time ahead, but so far his results are not impressive.

Carier start

Wakaso Mubarak was born on July 25, 1990 in Ghana, where at the age of 12 he joined the Adelaide Club Football Academy. In 2005, a 15-year-old boy went through a viewing at the club from the Ashanti Gold Top Division, where he moved. There he spent another three years, after which he entered into a professional contract. However, he only managed to play in a couple of matches when he was noticed by European scouts. As a result, in the summer of 2008, he moved to the Spanish club Elche, where his professional career began. The amount that the Spaniards paid for Wakaso Mubarak was not disclosed.

Relocation to Europe

In “Elche”, Wakaso Mubarak, whose photographs began to appear in European sports publications, as he was regarded as a great talent, spent three seasons. But it cannot be said that during this time he received a lot of playing practice: he entered the field only sixty times, scoring two goals in the last season. In 2010, his contract with the club expired, and the Ghanaian had to look for work in Spain. Fortunately, he was signed by Villarreal, who immediately sent the player to the double so that he could gain some playing practice there.

Going to Villarreal

In the double, the midfielder showed himself well, so he began to be called periodically to the main team. But at the same time, he could not get into the starting lineup: in two years spent at Villarreal, Wakaso Mubarak, whose biography so far was far from the most impressive, played only 25 matches. As a result, it was sold for a symbolic amount of 300 thousand euros to Hispaniola.

A new beginning in Hispaniola

In the new club, the 22-year-old midfielder was finally able to get a game practice, almost immediately booking a place in the starting lineup. As a result, over the season he spent 27 matches in which he scored three goals. Ghanaian began to progress and attracted attention in Russia, where he was seriously interested in Kazan “Rubin”. In the summer of 2013, the club paid six million euros to acquire a newly revealed player.

The game for Rubin and rent

Unfortunately, Wakaso couldn’t show himself in the Kazan club like he did in Espanyol: in a year he entered the field only 20 times, scoring two goals. The club management decided to give Ghanaian lease for a year to Celtic, but there the midfielder practically did not appear in the starting lineup. He entered the field only 11 times, scoring one goal. This result did not suit the leadership of the Russian club, and in the summer of 2015, Wakaso was sent to Las Palmas, Spain, where he reached his peak several years ago. He spent a good season at Las Palmas, playing 24 matches and scoring two goals, but he still did not fit Rubin, who did not renew his contract with the 26-year-old Ghanaian. As a result, in the summer of 2016, Wakaso was left without work.

Contract with Panathinaikos

But without the club, the midfielder did not stay long. As early as July 9, the Greek Panathinaikos offered him a three-year contract. Now the Ghanaian defends the colors of the Greek club and this season has entered the field eight times, scoring one goal and giving six assists. Perhaps it is here that he will be able to regain its former shape.

Team appearances

Wakaso Mubarak Biography

Despite a not very successful club career, Wakaso has already played 42 matches in the team, in which he scored 11 goals and gave two assists. He made his debut in October 2012 and already from the second match began to differ in assists. In six games in a row, he scored five goals and gave three assists. This was one of the main reasons that the Ghana team took fourth place in the 2013 Africa Cup. Since then, he has been one of the most important players in the national team - he replaced two times at the 2014 World Cup, and at the 2015 Africa Cup, where the Ghanaians made it to the finals, he was a base player.
