In the popular Windows 7 operating system, “disk management” is a great tool. It allows you to allocate space on your local drives, as well as create and delete them. In fact, this is a simplified version of the common hard drive management software. I want to note right away that "XP Disk Management" works on the same principle as in the "Seven". The "Disk Management" tool is located at the following address: the "Start" button, then go to the "Control Panel", after it - in the "Administration", then select "Computer Management", where we find it. You can see a list of your local drives in the upper block of the window that opens. The lower block, in turn, will show the distributed space between them, as well as the available connected media.
To reduce the size of the local disk D, you need to right-click on it on your manipulator, and then select the "Compress volume" option. In the window that appears, you will need to select the required compression level of the local disk. After that, you will immediately see how much space will be available on it. Enter the size and click squeeze. After some time, you will see a black area at the bottom of the window called “Disk Management”. It is not worth it to be afraid, it should be so. This displayed an unallocated area.
Go to the next item. Now we need to create a new local disk, for example, twenty gigabytes in size. To do this, right-click on the manipulator on the black area and select "Create a simple volume", after which you will see a "wizard" with which you will create a simple volume.
Click “Next” and in the next window set the required size for the disk. Again, select "Next", after which we assign the desired letter for the volume. You don’t need to ask anything else. Click Next again. Now you can name this disk, or you can not name it - it's up to you. That's all, we confirm the installation and get a twenty gigabyte disk.
Now you can try another feature of the disk management tool. Let's increase this local disk to available free space. Click on the new disk with the manipulator (right-click) and select "Expand Volume". A window of the corresponding “wizard” will appear before you. Click "Next" and specify the additional disk size (set the maximum), then again click "Next". Check all entries. If everything is correct, confirm with the “Finish” button. After that, your disk will become larger.
Now let's bring everything back to its original form. Delete the created volume and expand drive D. To do this, right-click on the drive that we want to delete and select the "Delete volume" item. Next, read the warning system and confirm. An unlabeled area will appear in front of you.
This is not all the features of the "disk management" tool. It can do much more, but not every user will need to use everyone. It is also worth using it very carefully, because if your discs contain important information, it may be irretrievably lost.
