Fry Alexander - famous Swiss striker

Fry Alexander is a Swiss footballer who was known not only in his country, but also abroad. Today it is one of the most famous football players in this country, so if you did not know about him, then you should definitely look at how his football career developed. Fry Alexander did not stay in almost any of the clubs he played for too long, so he managed to be the leader of several teams at once.

Carier start

Fry Alexander began his career at the best club in Switzerland - Basel, but it is worth noting that he did not immediately appear in this team - he got to the Basel Academy at the age of sixteen, before that he studied at the academies of other clubs. When Alexander turned 18, the club offered him a professional contract, and Fry was transferred to the main team. There he played 11 matches and scored one goal, which was far from the best indicator for the central striker, in the position of which he played. Therefore, in 1998, Fry Alexander became a player in another Swiss club called Thun.

Transition to "Tun"

Alexander Fry is a footballer who did not immediately find his place in the sun, so he stayed in Tuna for a short while - only for one season. During this season, he played in all matches of the club (there were 36 - 34 in the championship and 2 in the cup) and scored seven goals. In 1999, a 20-year-old footballer moved to Lucerne, where he immediately became the main player, but did not stay long.

One and a half years at Lucerne

It was at Lucerne that Fry opened up completely - in his first season he played for the club in 36 matches, but he already scored 16 goals, which attracted the attention of other clubs. The young striker began to make a name for himself and scored six more goals in the first half of the second season in 21 matches, after which he received a tempting offer from Servette. The 22-year-old player agreed.

Takeoff in the Servette

The new club was the most favorable for young talent - here he began to progress at a tremendous pace. Finishing out the remaining half of the season, he entered the field in a new T-shirt only fifteen times - but scored as many as eight goals. It was then that the Swiss national football team drew attention to the young talent, and Alexander was invited to defend her colors. In his second match for the Swiss national team, he managed to score a hat-trick - in the qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup against the Luxembourg national team. Fry spent his first full season for Servette beyond praise - he scored 19 goals in 43 matches. The next season he again failed to finish in the same club in which he started: after playing 24 matches and scoring 17 goals in just six months, the striker went up a notch, moving to the French championship - to the Rennes club, which paid one and a half million euros.

A new beginning in France

Unfortunately, the period of adaptation to the new championship was not very good for the player - after the incredible start of the season, the ending was a failure: only two goals in sixteen matches. But this was only the beginning - in the next season, the 24-year-old striker made a real extravaganza extravaganza - in 32 matches he scored 21 goals. After that, he began to perform at a consistently high level - in the 04/05 season, for example, he scored 20 goals in 38 matches, that is, Fry scored at least twenty goals for two consecutive seasons. However, the next season due to injury turned out to be not so successful. Finally, taking his team to the European Cups, Fry was not really able to help her - in 31 matches he scored only 9 goals. However, a drop in performance did not prevent the striker from making another increase - to conclude a contract with the Dortmund Borussia, which acquired Fry for four million euros.

Performances for Borussia

Fry came to the Dortmund club as an accomplished footballer - the Swiss national football team was proud of such an attacker, and in Borussia he quickly received a captain's armband. In his first season for the German club, Fry scored 17 goals in 34 matches, which was a very good indicator - he was not enough to become the top scorer of the championship. However, the second season was overshadowed by an injury that knocked Fry out of action for a long period of time. He was able to play in only 16 matches, scoring six goals. The last season for the Dortmund club was quite successful - in 33 matches, the striker scored 14 goals. At that time he was 28 years old, the injury was quite serious, so Alexander decided to return to his homeland, in his native FC Basel.

Return to Basel

Fry returned to Basel not as a hero, but as an important member of the main team - he had a great start to his first season, but a broken arm ruined his joy of returning. However, he still showed an incredible result - in 34 matches he scored 27 goals. The next season, there were no injuries, so in 48 matches Fry scored 33 goals, repeating the same result the next year, but in 43 matches. Both times he became the top scorer of the Swiss Championship. In his last season, the 33-year-old footballer played a little less and didn’t score so much - in 31 matches he realized 14 points. Having completed his career as a player, Fry spent a year and a half as sports director of Lucerne, after which he took a break, and now (since January 2016) he has been holding the position of coach of the youth team of his native Basel.
