He played the accordion, forcing everyone to dance to his cheerful tunes, convinced the old people of victory, raising their spirits and giving hope. These were not only the thoughts of the hero, so did Twardowski.
Vasily Terkin: a short trip around the homeland
One of the fighters lost his pouch. Vasily recalls how he was left without a hat during the wound, and the nurse offered her her. Terkin still kept his headgear, so he gave his soldier a pouch, explaining his action by saying that in the war everything can be lost, except for the homeland. Spring has come, but then the buzzing of the May beetle is drowned out by the sound of a bomber. All the soldiers fell to the ground, and only Vasily rose to his full height and fired from a rifle, knocking down an enemy plane, for which he received an order.
