In this article we will consider what logistics is. And in particular, what does the logistics manager do, what are his responsibilities, and what is the essence of the work.

Very often disagreements arise due to the fact that people interpret this concept in different ways. Sometimes even those who have worked for more than a year in this area find it difficult to continue the phrase "logistic is." One of these misconceptions is that this field of activity means the whole worldview of the enterprise’s business processes through the prism of costs that must be controlled and optimized.

According to the wording in the textbooks, logistics is the management, planning, organization and subsequent control of the movement of material assets and the corresponding flow in the business processes of the company. In other words, this means managing material and related movements, starting from the purchase of raw materials for the product (product) and ending with its optimal receipt by the end user. And to put it more simply, a logistician is a person who manages and regulates the entire supply chain.

However, this does not always correspond to reality. Since this profession is new to our market, very often the picture is as follows: a logistician is a person who manages the organization's processes or the control of inventory items.

Therefore, a logistician without work experience, hiring a company, must first find out what exactly he will need to do, determine the scope of his duties and what exactly is required of him. For example, some are convinced that one cannot do without knowledge of higher mathematics in this area, being guided by a stereotypical representation. In fact, the logistician is a professional who can build a strategic system with the exception of failures that lead to additional material costs. That is, he must be a specialist in saving. For other employers, it is important that the hired person possesses the skills of diplomacy to work with suppliers, transportation companies and colleagues. It all depends on the industry and the scope of the organization. But we can make a general conclusion that the logistician is a process specialist who is responsible for the final result. Therefore, general knowledge of financial affairs, management, marketing, legislation, as well as knowledge of foreign languages ​​will always be welcome.

Unfortunately, in our country there are no logistics companies (in the classical sense of the word) as such. There are structures and organizations that perform a specific, clearly regulated role in the overall process.

As a result, we can say that a logistician is an organizer who will be able to put everything and everyone together, motivate each “link” of the chain to coordinate the fulfillment of the tasks of the end customer, who, in fact, pays for everything.
