How to disable autorun in the system and whether to do it

Due to the penetration of the Internet into all areas of our lives, more and more attention has to be paid to computer protection. And this concerns not only the installation of anti-virus programs, but also other security methods. Practice shows that the cause of infection of inexperienced users' cars is most often a banal autostart.

Thus, most experts strongly advise you to disable autorun on each of your home PCs, as otherwise various troubles are not ruled out. It is especially useful to do this when you regularly use flash drives that come from different sources. They are the cause of every second infection. Unfortunately, there are a lot of malicious programs that use this path of introduction into the system. Not all anti-virus applications can fully prevent this phenomenon.

But how to disable autorun on your computer? Perhaps this is too difficult for a beginner? In fact, there is nothing complicated about this. The easiest and quickest way to disable automatic startup from removable media is as follows: go to the Start menu, look for the Control Panel there, in which we look for the item “Autostart”. In it, you must uncheck the box "Allow autorun for all devices." So you can disable autorun XP, as well as other Windows operating systems. However, this method cannot be called too reliable.

A much more reliable method of disabling automatic startup is to use group policies. To do this, click on the "Start" button, find the line "Run" and enter the command "gpedit.msc" there. If you do not have such a line, you must simultaneously press the Windows button (this is a button with the Windows logo) and the R key (the keyboard layout does not matter). The same Run window will appear, into which the command is driven.

The Group Policy dialog box will appear, which we will use to disable autorun. We select the “Local Computer” policy, in the drop-down list we find “Computer Configuration”, open the sub-item “Administrative Templates”, in which the item “System” should be. Isn’t it, the way resembles a tale about the death of Koshchei? However, we were distracted. A long list will appear in the system tab on the right side of the dialog box, in which you need to find the desired item to disable the automatic start.

We click on the item "Disable autorun" twice, select the option "Enabled", and then in the drop-down list below we look for the function to disable it on all removable media. Click on the OK button. All! Your computer is reliably protected from pests through removable drives.

However, you should immediately say that newcomers should not go too far on XP remote policies. Disabling autorun is easy, but if you get carried away in your research, it is quite possible to deactivate the necessary functions, which in most cases leads to the inability to install programs and games from physical media.
