Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant, Kazan

The Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant (KOMZ) has been producing military-civilian surveillance equipment for more than 75 years. Created as an understudy for the Leningrad GOMZ, it became the leading company in the production of optical devices in the Russian Federation.

OJSC Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant

History of creation

Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant (Kazan) was built in the capital of Tatarstan since 1936 according to the plan for the replacement of strategic enterprises in case of war. Since the Leningrad GOMZ was located too close to the border, an additional production base was prepared in the rear. The backbone of the team consisted of experts from Leningrad.

With the outbreak of war, LGOMZ was evacuated to the constructed sites in Kazan, which allowed to quickly deploy the release of much-needed binoculars, artillery, mortar, and tank sights. The production of aviation, in particular bomber sights, was mastered.

After the Second World War, Leningraders returned to their native enterprise, however, the production capacities of KOMZ were preserved. Since the army of optical devices in such a large number was not required, the plant partially reoriented to peaceful products. Today the Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant offers products for hunters, athletes, photographers, tourists, environmental organizations, the forest industry, geologists, etc.

Technology

Despite the 75 years of age, OJSC Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant has a modern technological base. Products are designed and manufactured on the basis of professionally designed optical schemes that exclude harm to the organs of vision. Instrument lenses are made of high-quality glass - as a rule, from the blanks of the Lytkarinsky plant. Then they are subjected to stage-by-stage processing: polishing, centering, washing in special solutions and dehydration.

The quality of optical surfaces is determined by test glasses with the highest accuracy. Complex assemblies of prisms and lenses are glued together with special compounds - absolutely transparent, withstanding extreme temperature conditions (+/- 50 ยฐ C) without loss of performance. To minimize the loss of light rays when passing through the glass structure, special antireflection coatings are applied to the optical surfaces by the physicochemical method.

Reliability

Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant is famous for its reliability. During assembly, each product undergoes an accurate alignment, which reduces the error in the parameters of the lenses:

  • Non-parallelism of optical axes.
  • The difference in the magnifications of the channels.
  • The difference in rotation angles.

In order to verify the reliability and reliability of KOMZ products during operation and to maintain high optical characteristics for a long period of time, factory periodic tests are carried out. After assembly, each of the devices is subjected to loads on shock and vibration stands, in sprinkler chambers, in a pressure chamber (for resistance to temperatures). The manufacturing process allows you to get observational instruments with decent image quality across the entire field of view in any climate zone.

Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant: products

The range of optical instruments manufactured at KOMZ is characterized by a wide range. Here they produce:

  • Binoculars of military and civilian design.
  • Spotting tubes.
  • Laser rangefinders.
  • Monoculars.
  • Sights.

Classical, multi-purpose and night binoculars of the Baigysh brand with a different degree of approximation enjoy a reputation for high-quality products: from 8 x 30 to 15 x 50. Some models have ruby-coated lenses. KOMZ also produces VIP-class gift baskets, consisting of exclusive binoculars with a gilded finish and ruby โ€‹โ€‹symbols on the lenses.

Military products

Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant has mastered the production of night vision (NV) devices of generations 1, 2 and 2+. It:

  • night binoculars;
  • pseudo binoculars;
  • monocular HB;
  • HB glasses.

They enhance the natural illumination and allow observation in the conditions of night, weak artificial light, and even in total darkness (basement, cave, any darkened room). All models of devices are adapted to any climatic zones: from the Arctic to the desert. They have shockproof protection and are not afraid of rainfall.

Another area - laser binoculars, rangefinders, reconnaissance devices, periscopic rangefinders. They improve visual inspection of the area, allow you to measure the distance to both large objects, and to individual objects during the day and at dusk. They help to determine the coordinates of ground targets, shell explosions, and air objects. Rangefinders from KOMZ are lightweight, compact, quite durable, have outstanding characteristics. The measurement range of a number of models reaches 25 km with an accuracy of +/- 3 m.

Quality standards

Observation devices should expand the capabilities of the human eye without harming vision and health in general. The Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant strictly withstands in its products the requirements for optical characteristics established by domestic and international standards. The basic requirements for the quality and safety of observing instruments established in Russian GOSTs 7048-81 and 50909-96 fully comply with the standardization requirements of ISO 14133 for binoculars of the highest class A.

Each device is identified by an individual serial number and passport confirming the legitimacy of its origin, compliance with standards and technical specifications, especially in terms of ensuring the safety of users' health, is confirmed by acceptance tests with the mark of quality control.
