Types of phrases in Russian

A phrase is a combination of words, which is based on a subordinate connection. As a rule, words in a phrase are associated not only in meaning, but also in grammar.

Moreover, the phrase is not an independent syntactic unit, it does not convey a complete thought and is not an independent unit in communication. In fact, this is just the material that is needed to build proposals. There are various types and types of these syntax constructs.

According to its lexical and grammatical design, the phrase can underlie the sentence. However, since it does not possess the attributes that the proposal possesses, it is not. For example, the phrase does not have the purpose of utterance, intonation and grammatical basis. It performs a nominative role, that is, it names objects, actions, states, and so on. Moreover, the information contained in the phrase is more detailed than the word.

One of the words in the construction is the main one, the other is dependent. A link between these elements is called a subordinate syntax link. The functions of the main word can be performed by any part of speech. Types of phrases are determined by the nature of the main word. So, if the main word is a verb, the syntax is called a verb. There are also nominal and adverbial constructions.

The main types of phrases, as a rule, are identified with the concept of types of syntactic communication. The subjugatory connection to which words are combined in combination can be of three types: coordination, management and adjacency.

types of phrases

Types of collocations: coordination

Coordination is the type of syntactic connection when the dependent word is consistent with the form of the main word in categories such as gender, number and case. This connection changes the form of the dependent word when changing the form of the main. For example, in the phrase “tasty food”, the dependent word “tasty” stands in the form of a feminine, nominative, singular, as well as the main word. If the form of the main word changes, then the dependent word also changes: “tasty food”, “tasty food” and so on.

Types of collocations: management

Management is a syntactic connection in which the case of a dependent word is determined by the main word. The form of the subordinate word remains unchanged when the main word changes. For example, in a phrase like “I love mom”, the dependent word “mom” stands in the form of an accusative case. If you change the form of the main word, the addict remains the same: “loves mom”, “loved mom” and so on.

Types of collocations: adjacency

Adjacency is a kind of syntactic connection in meaning, when the dependent word does not change and has no forms. For example, “walk fast,” “sing loudly.” In such cases, dependent words are adverbs that always remain unchanged. In other words, adjacency is a connection in meaning.

Thus, a phrase is a combination of two or more words through a subordinate connection. It performs a nominative function, which is how it differs from the proposal. There are such types of communication phrases: adjacency, management and coordination.
