Lagunov Evgeny Alexandrovich was born on December 14, 1985 in Arkhangelsk. On the advice of doctors, his parents brought him to the pool at the age of seven. And so began the brilliant sports career of a Russian swimmer.
The first competition for Lagunov was the junior short-water competition, in which he demonstrated phenomenal speed for his age.
Sports career
Evgeny Lagunov is a swimmer who, at the age of 18, was sensationally part of the Russian team. Training became much more tiring and more difficult, but soon results appeared.
In 2004, as part of the relay team in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle race, Lagunov became the silver medalist of the continental championship. The Russian swimmer repeated the same achievement at the 2006 European Championships.
In 2005, Eugene takes third place in singles in short water at the continental championship, and in 2007 he won the bronze medal of the World Championship in the combined relay.
Lagunov went to the Beijing Olympics as one of the team’s main swimmers. In the 4 x 200 meter relay race, he performed in preliminary races. And although Evgeny Lagunov did not participate in the final race, he deservedly received a silver medal of the Olympic Games.
Truly golden for the Russian swimmer was 2010. He became the two-time winner of the continental championship in relay competitions and the world champion in short water. In addition to these gold medals, his collection of awards has replenished with three silver awards with the European Championship and World Cup.
Lagunov rode to his second Olympics in London with the firm intention of winning medals. And he succeeded: the Russian team took third place in the relay race 4 x 100 meters freestyle.
Personal life
After a successful performance at the Beijing Olympics, Lagunov Eugene moved to St. Petersburg, where he continued to train hard. It was here that he was preparing for the winning European Championship 2010 and for the London Olympics.
His family helps Lagunov to endure physical and emotional stress: his wife Maria and sons - Roman and Oleg. They not only often go to competitions with Eugene to different countries, but also regularly attend his training.
