“Honesty” is a word that is familiar to all of us and in most cases means something boring. Is not it so? Immediately appears "nerd" in glasses, which takes the old women across the road, gives way to public transport and the queue at the box office, and in the evenings removes cats from trees. I can’t believe that a person traveling in a jeep and owning the world can be decent. Or maybe? Or is not that happiness? Let's talk about this in this post.
Virtues are out of fashion now
Not only clothes or musical directions enter fashion , but also certain moral qualities. Since most of us were born in Soviet times (and some even had the honor of growing up and getting raised at this time), we know firsthand who the "Timurovs" are. It was a “trend", in modern terms, the youth sought to be decent, responsive, humane. The word "decency" was then well known and respected by everyone.
When the iron curtain rose, it became fashionable to be naughty. Beatniks, dissidents - young people sought to oppose the system, even if not in a completely decent way. What is in fashion today? Certainly not altruism! It may not be taught in school, but striving for the heights, gaining wealth and fame is fashionable today. Decency? This is what can hinder the achievement of everything. In the course of sayings like “Insolence is the second happiness”, “Everyone is for himself”, and just such “punchy” behavior is tacitly approved by society.
Honesty and Decency
In fact, no society or state system can decide for you what kind of person to be. Remember that mom used to tell us in childhood for behavior stupid from her point of view? “And if everyone goes to jump from the eighth floor, will you go too?” Let it be “fashionable” to be a kind of disobedient person without principles and rules, but there is also an inner voice, a force far more powerful than the voice of the social system.
Each of us hears this voice, which is called conscience, soul, mind, or the voice of the heart. Decency is one of our best practices. What is it manifested in?
What is decency?
- Differentiation of the concepts of “good” and “evil”. This is not about social patterns, but your inner flair. Without religious commandments and a criminal code, you know what is good and not so good.
- Reluctance to commit "evil" actions. Internal decency makes us feel ashamed in the event of immoral acts. Note that there is no coercion - we decide what we do. And even if we choose something “wrong” (from our point of view), we can remain completely unpunished, and only our conscience will be tormented afterwards.
- The desire to do good deeds. Internal decency “approves” our desire to be “good” and rewards with a feeling of deep satisfaction.
What gives a person decency?
This may seem strange, but most people with great pleasure would refuse such a dubious gift of nature as decency. Why is it needed? To interfere with personal growth, promotion, enrichment?
However, as the practice and experience of millions of people shows, all the “toys” like money, fame, and the authorities do not bear much moral satisfaction (of course, this is hard to believe until you “play enough” with them. People are chasing more and more of these achievements, but, having got them, they experience disappointment and a feeling of something oppressing in their souls. But try to live decently! You will not gain anything material, but the soul will rejoice and sing. The fact of the matter is that material things, like fake New Year's toys, are “not pleasing”. At the same time, decency allows you to feel omnipotent and almost at the top of the world, even if you are a poor student.
Decency is not a required quality. Moreover, “good” behavior, according to modern social stereotypes, will prevent a person from realizing himself. But this is only if we mean by “realizing” ourselves the pursuit of values such as career growth, money, new brand things. If you want to be just happy, to live in harmony with yourself, then you will not be able to be dishonorable.
