Cotton fluff is a short (no more than 15 mm), soft and fluffy fiber, which is obtained after the separation of long cotton fibers. Threads or yarn are made from it, which are used in the manufacture of light and breathable textile products. Recycled material is called lint, which found its application in the creation of various types of printed products, cotton wool and much more.
What is cotton fluff?
These are short and slightly coarse fibers that are removed from the seeds of an adult plant after separation of the cotton fiber. There are two types of it: the first and second removal. Cotton fluff is used not only in textile production, but also in other areas, for example, to make cotton wool, insulation materials and for many other purposes.
Like little white clouds
As summer approaches, the cotton fields fill with fluffy white clouds. As the weather gets warmer, fuzz formation becomes especially intense. The material surrounding the cotton seeds does not just look beautiful. Cotton fluff consists of fibrous seed hair that helps seeds float through the air, providing them with a wider distribution spectrum.
Cotton lint
What is the name of cotton fluff? Translated from English, “lint” (lint ) means “ fiber”. This concept applies to cotton fluff obtained from seeds. After separation from long plant filaments, as a rule, a certain amount of short fiber remains, which is about 4–8 percent of the total seed mass. Removing lint from seeds is carried out in several stages. This process involves performing in 2-3 doses. This is necessary in order to be able to increase the amount of filmed material and divide it by quality characteristics.
Production and Applications
Cotton fluff serves as a raw material for obtaining products such as cotton wool, batting, printed and absorbent products, various artificial fibers, as well as films, varnishes, explosives and much more. Lint is used in medicine as a material for the manufacture of tissue for surgical clothing, the feature of which is that on the one hand its surface is soft and fluffy, while on the other it is smoother and more slippery. Cotton processing plants have a complex process of seed lintering. Despite the fact that the cotton lint is considered a low-grade material, its manufacture occurs in compliance with all necessary technical conditions.
