Barnaul is a large industrial center with about 630 thousand people. The city closes the top twenty in the ranking of the best cities in Russia in terms of quality of life. The local economy is mainly represented by enterprises in the chemical and food industries, as well as engineering.

Barnaul areas: features and interesting facts
As can be seen from the table, the largest in area is the Central district of the city. The smallest - Zheleznodorozhny - is almost five times smaller than it. But the most populated is the Industrial District. At least 180 thousand people live within it.
The central position in the city is Zheleznodorozhny district. In development, it is represented mainly by the private sector. Here is the main railway station, as well as a number of universities. But the Central district is rightfully considered the "trading Mecca" of the city. After all, there are 9 markets and about 300 trading enterprises. In addition, a large number of architectural monuments and beautiful old buildings of Barnaul are concentrated in the Central District.
All the existing areas of Barnaul were established at different times: Zheleznodorozhny, Central and Oktyabrsky - in February 1938; Leninsky - in 1972, and Industrial - in 1978.
