Roman Gonzalez reached his first success in the boxing ring in 2004, when he was able to win a gold award at the Central American Games held in Costa Rica. He fought in the category of athletes up to 49 kilograms.

In a way, Roman Gonzalez is a boxer quite unique, as he spent his professional debut only a few days after reaching adulthood. Moreover, during the first year of performances in the professional ring, he fought in several weight categories.

Until the age of twenty, young talent fought in the territory of his country. The only exception was two rating matches, which Roman Gonzalez held in Japan. The initial phase of a sports career for him was marked by the conquest of two not very significant titles: the champion of Nicaragua and the regional title of WBA Fedecentro. One cannot ignore the fact that he won his first sixteen fights ahead of schedule.

In September 2008, a Nicaraguan came to the Land of the Rising Sun to fight with a local champion named Nyide Yutake. Gonzalez, unknown to anyone, was able to declassify the winner of many fights, and spent only four rounds on it. This defeat for the Japanese was the final in his career. Roman became the new world champion at the age of 20, having spent 21 fights.

The year 2009 was marked for “Chocolate” by holding two defenses. In the first of them, he defeated Francisco Rosas, and in the second - Katsunari Takayama.

In January 2010, Roman “put out the light” in the eyes of the Mexican Ivan Meneses. After this victory, Gonzalez moved to the category above, where he was also able to remain so far undefeated.

October 24, 2010 Nicaraguan second time met with Francisco Rosas. At stake was the title of interim WBA world champion. This time Gonzalez did not bring the principled and so important fight for him to the decision of the judges and knocked out his opponent. Six months later, Roman Gonzalez, whose biography as an athlete has not yet been completed, took a full-fledged champion belt for himself, defeating Manuel Vargas ahead of schedule.

In the period until 2013, a native of Nicaragua was able to defeat four applicants for the belt. Three of them were knocked out. In November 2012, Gonzalez in a fairly close fight nevertheless defeated at that time a little-known public, Juan Francisco Estrada, who later became the world champion.

Roman González (a boxer who serves as an example for many people) held his first fight in this category in May 2013 and knocked out a Colombian rival. But the real success was waiting for the Nicaraguan September 5, 2014. That day, he destroyed Akira Yaegashi in the ring, which allowed Roman to become the best in the WBC and The Ring versions.

Gonzalez's vivid performances could not go unnoticed by the functionaries of the world's leading sports channels. And this ultimately led to the signing by the athlete of a contract with television titanium - HBO. On this television channel, Roman began performing in May 2015.

On October 17, 2015, on the undercard of the battle, Golovkin-Lemieux Gonzalez won a confident and well-deserved victory by TKO over American Brian Viloria in the ninth round.
