Island in the metropolis

One of them is Beaver Island, reviews of which will say that the place is quiet, even wild. Only fishermen, but picnic lovers are found here. And all this is within the boundaries of Moscow!

Location

Facts from the story
Maps and photo materials will help you figure out how the island was formed and whether it has always been so. So, the plan of the capital from 1838 shows us that the Moscow River flows along the old channel, where the Kozhukhovsky backwater is now located. In place of the new channel, along which the river runs now, we see elongated lakes and narrow channels connecting them.
In the 1870s built the first dam with a gateway. This wooden structure was called Perervinskaya. Thanks to the dam, the water level in the river in the city has risen to navigable.
There were no changes until the 1930s. In the summer of 1937, they completed the construction of the Moscow-Volga Canal; a concrete dam and two locks appeared in it. Volga waters flowed into the Moskva River, which helped to save a body of water that had become shallow by that time. Lakes also grew, and the meadows between them and the main channel became islands.
In the 1950s the former lakes became the navigable branches of the Moscow River: Novinkovsky and Nagatinsky. August 17, 1960 Nagatino and neighboring villages became part of Moscow.
In 1968, the river was straightened, a new Nagatinskaya embankment was built, a bridge was thrown across the river.
Moscow river
The city is named after the river. The Finno-Ugric tribes of Meria and Murom, who originally inhabited the area, called the Mustajoki River. It has been suggested that the name of the city comes from this term, although there are several theories.
The river is 503 km long, with a vertical fall of 155 m. The area of its drainage basin is 17,600 km². The maximum depth is 3 m above the borders of Moscow and up to 6 m is lower. Usually the river freezes in November-December and begins to thaw in late March. The absolute water level in the center of Moscow is 120 m above sea level; a historical maximum of 127.25 m above sea level was established after the flood of 1908.
The main tributaries are the rivers Ruza, Istra, Yauza, Pakhra and Severka. Water sources are estimated as: 61% thaw, 12% rainfall and 27% groundwater. After the construction of the Moscow Canal (1932-1937) was completed, the Moscow River also absorbed part of the waters of the Upper Volga. This allowed for reliable commercial transportation, which had previously been interrupted by summer droughts (older dams built in 1785, 1836 and 1878 were not effective). The average discharge, including Volga water, ranges from 38-250 m³ at the entrance to the Oka. Depending on the season, the flow velocity ranges from 0.1 m / s (dams are closed in winter) to 1.5-2.0 m / s (in May dams are open).
Since the winter of 2009-2010 new entertainments are introduced on the Moscow River: a walk along the winter river on an icebreaker. There are five running river icebreakers that run from the pier of the Ukraina Hotel to the Novospassky Monastery and vice versa. The duration of the walk will be about 2 hours.
A tour of the Moscow River is one of the traditional ways to get to know the capital. In addition, there is nothing more pleasant than enjoying the cool fresh air on a small boat on a hot day, even if this is not the first impression of Moscow. Such ships cruise along the river, which flows in the very center of Moscow from the northwest to the southeast.
