Tablet computers, or “tablets,” are one of the most popular trends this year. A thin and lightweight portable PC with a touch screen can be used almost anywhere. With it, they read books, watch videos, hold meetings, work with office applications and even (with a 3G module or Wi-Fi) go online. Tablets with a SIM card are now presented in a very wide range, and there is plenty to choose from. But far from always choosing a gadget with this function is justified. Consider all the pros and cons of such a decision.
SIM Card Tablets: Benefits
These devices have a special 3G module inside that is designed to access the network using a mobile operator. Therefore, such tablets with a SIM card are often called internet tablets today. After all, they were created precisely for access to the World Wide Web. Access to the network using tablets can be done using one of two technologies: Wi-Fi or 3G. In modern models, there may be one or both of these functions. In any metropolis, it is now very easy to find an access point that distributes reliable and familiar Wi-Fi. But if you often have to travel out of town or spend time on business trips, you can’t do without 3g. Thus, tablets with a SIM card in terms of the versatility of the Internet connection will certainly benefit. Wherever a person is, he will always be in touch. In order to get cheap Internet for a tablet, you can purchase a separate SIM card of a CDMA operator. As you know, such a communication technology is much cheaper. For those who are interested in absolute accessibility and mobility, manufacturers offer tablets on two SIM cards. One of them can be used to access the network, and the other for calls and sending SMS. As you can see, in terms of choosing an iPad, a potential buyer does not have to complain.
SIM card tablets: disadvantages
There are only two minuses of such devices, but for some potential users they can outweigh all of the above advantages. The first is, of course, the price. I don’t really want to pay a decent amount for 3g, especially if you plan to use the tablet in an apartment in which there is already a router. The second point is that most of the built-in modems work in the network of only those operators that support the UMTC standard. And this significantly reduces the coverage area. For example, now in Ukraine the only holder of a license for this standard is Trimob, the mobile division of Ukrtelecom.
Alternative
Users who want to always have access to the network, but do not want to put up with these shortcomings, can use the following compromise options:
- Buy an additional 3G-USB modem of any operator you like and choose the tariff plan that suits you the most.
- Use a portable Wi-Fi modem.
- Set up network access on your smartphone and use wireless Internet via Wi-Fi on your tablet.
As you can see, it all depends on the specific conditions of use of the gadget. In any case, the availability of different options and the development of technologies cannot but please any person who wants to keep up with the times.
