Football club Zenit is one of the oldest and most titled clubs in Russia. Throughout history, the team has had both ups and downs. For all its existence, the club from St. Petersburg has seen many mentors. Coaches “Zenith” were both outstanding and led him to titles and victories, and those in which the leadership of the team was not given. Many are familiar with the work and biography of trainers who have recently worked or are working, but they don’t know about older mentors. The following is a list of Zenit coaches from 1936-1970.

Team Coaches (1936-1940)

The exact date of the formation of the Zenit team is difficult to name. You can consider the first coach since 1936.

  • Peter Pavlovich Filipov (1936-1937; 1940). Acted as a team coach twice. First came to the “Zenith”, when he needed a coach with knowledge of tactics and the availability of necessary skills. However, the mentor soon quarreled with the management and was forced to leave the club. The return happened in 1940, but the championship was soon stopped due to the outbreak of World War II.

  • Boris Ivanovich Ivin (1938). The former Zenit coach resigned due to conflict, so Ivin was appointed. The game with the team did not work out for him, and soon he left the place of the mentor.
  • Konstantin Andreevich Egorov (1938-1940). Taking his post, he was able to bring the club to the final of the Cup of the country, where they could not beat the Moscow “Spartak”. He was fired after the unsuccessful start of the 1940 season.

Coaches "Zenith" (1944-1950)

  • Konstantin Ivanovich Lemeshev (1944-1945; 1948-1950). Under the guidance of this mentor, Zenit was able to win the trophy for the first time - the USSR Cup. The cup was held despite the fact that the war was not over yet. He was fired after a devastating defeat from the CDKA. The coach returned in 1948. Under his leadership, the team showed a beautiful and vibrant game. Soon Lemeshev was diagnosed with heart problems, but he continued to train. At one of the matches, he felt ill and was sent to the hospital, and soon died.
  • Mikhail Pavlovich Butusov (1946). The head coach of “Zenith”, under whose leadership the team first played in international matches. Performances in the championship were unsatisfactory, and he soon resigned.
  • Ivan Mikhailovich Talanov (1946-1948). The mentor spent two years in the team, but did not manage to earn trophies.
  • Georgy Semenovich Lasin (1950-1951). Coaches “Zenith” in different ways led him. Lassin came out with this badly. Teamwork was disrupted in the team, cases of violation of discipline became more frequent. At the end of the season he left the post.
  • Vladimir Ivanovich Lemeshev (1952-1954). Brother Konstantin Lemeshev. During the leadership took 7th and 5th place. After the unsuccessful start of the season of the 54th year, he left the post.
  • Nikolai Mikhailovich Lokshinov (1954-1955). The result of mentoring was the 7th and 8th place, as well as the semifinal of the USSR Cup.

  • Arkady Ivanovich Alov (1956-1957; 1967). He was engaged in rejuvenating the composition, but not possessing the proper skills, he did not bring any result. The football riot that happened at that time forced a change of leadership. He returned to the ranks of “Zenith” after 10 years, but could not fix the difficult situation at that time in the team.

  • Georgy Ivanovich Zharkov (1957-1960). He brought innovations to the team. The team was subsequently invited to become famous football players. Could not win the cups, but the “Zenith” with him acted confidently.
  • Gennady Borisovich Bondarenko (1960). A young coach who was just over 30 years old. He spent only a season in the team.
  • Evgeny Ivanovich Eliseev (1961-1964). The coach abandoned the accepted tactics and began to play new football. The team showed a good game, but discipline followed in the 1964 season, and the coach was fired.
  • Valentin Vasilievich Fedorov (1964-1966). At the time of the coach’s leadership, there were bad times for the team, and he could not bring anything new to her game.
  • Artem G. Falyan (1968-1970). Arriving at the team, the coach brought new players with him, but could not help the team significantly. He was fired from his post due to a conflict with the leadership.
