Parents
Dad - Vladimir Yuryevich, engineer by profession. Mom - Tatyana Vladimirovna, also an engineer by training. The athlete’s grandmother, Valentina Ivanovna, immediately went to the front after school, where she was a nurse. The second grandmother of the champion, Raisa Georgievna, is a civil engineer by profession. She, together with her husband, Vladimir Fedorovich (captain of the river fleet) lived in the Vologda region. They had a daughter, who was named Tatyana (Elena’s mother). After some time, they were also transferred to work in Volgograd.
Childhood of the future champion
Slesarenko Elena Vladimirovna was born on February 28, 1982 in the city of Volgograd. In the family, she was a welcome and long-awaited child. From early childhood, stood out among peers for its mobility and activity. She loved dancing and gymnastic exercises.
Seeing the hobbies of the child, the mother decided to send her daughter to a choreographic studio. Elena’s teacher, Irina Yurievna Ivanova , constantly kept telling the girl that she had excellent inclinations that needed to be developed through hard work. Little Lena listened to the teacher and was very responsible for the classes.
Elena Slesarenko enthusiastically worked in a dance class, where she learned the mastery of ballet. In addition, she attended music school and learned to play the piano. But she was drawn to go in for sports. She tried herself in swimming and athletics.
The choice

First competition

Elena Slesarenko in the seventh grade for the first time went to competitions in another city. From that moment began her sports career. In city competitions Elena usually occupied 3-4 places. After some time, her outstanding coach Gorkov Boris Mikhailovich discerned her talent and suggested that Lena concentrate on high jumps.
The future champion liked the jumps, and she began to win competitions among her peers in both city and regional and countries. In Volgograd, at the country's winter championship, Elena Slesarenko became the first. And at the age of nineteen, she was included in the Russian national athletics team.
Master of Sport
In 1999, Elena entered the medical academy, but did not stop playing sports. Her surname sounded more and more often at major competitions, and Elena decided to transfer to the Academy of Physical Education. She graduated in 2006, continuing her studies in graduate school.
In 2000, she successfully passed the standards for the title of master of sports. In 2002, she won the national championship and took fifth place in the European tournament. In 2003, she was able to take second place at the European Youth Championship.
In 2004, she became the owner of the European Cup and received gold medals of her first world championship. At the Olympics in Athens, she was also able to get a gold medal. In 2005, she won the Russian championship, but was injured at competitions in Finland.
