Channel - what is it? Types, description and scope of channels

The channel is a product very much demanded today made of metal. Its main distinguishing feature is the U-shaped section. The thickness of the finished product can be from 0.4 to 1.5 cm, and the height of the walls is 5-40 cm. Thin-shelf products are made by processing a flexible strip using special profile mills. Channels made from non-ferrous metals are obtained after processing the workpiece by pressing and extrusion, and steel - by the technology of hot rolling of a metal workpiece on high-quality mills. All varieties of this material are widely used in the construction industry.

Production of steel channel

The steel channel (GOST 8240-97) has a pronounced difference from a conventional beam, which consists in the presence of a special U-shaped section. Such metal products are obtained by rolling billets using the hot method or using the technology of cold deformation of steel sheets. It is produced in the form of steel long products 3ps / sp5 and rolled from 09g2s alloys. Channel bars are divided into two varieties depending on the form:

  • parallel - internal faces are located strictly parallel relative to each other;
  • inclined - internal faces are placed under a slope.
    channel of various shapes: U-shaped, U-shaped.

Scope of application

As mentioned above, the channel is a very popular and popular material, without which no construction can do. It is used in the construction of buildings and structures for residential and industrial use, private and country houses, fences and fences, bridges, steel structures and farms.

Hot rolled channel

One of the varieties of steel is a hot-rolled channel, the cross section of which is also U-shaped. It is made in the form of two shelves that are parallel to each other, and one connecting wall. This channel is divided into 3 varieties:

  • with multiple unmeasured length;
  • with multiple measured length;
  • with measured length.

As for the dimensions of the channel, they can be non-standard, since it all depends on the wishes and requirements of the customer. Internal faces should have a slope of no more than 10%. Hot rolled channel is a universal material for light and heavy industries.

Varieties

Today, there are other varieties of hot-rolled channel, for example, special for car building and the same for automotive.

Bent steel channel is made of low alloy, hot rolled, cold rolled and carbon steel on bending machines. It is divided into two types: unequal and equal sex. Such metal rolling is used in cases when huge bending loads will be placed on the structure under construction.

channel sizes: thickness, length and width
For the production of low alloy steel channel is used (as the name implies) low alloy steel. It is characterized by high resistance to various dynamic loads and large fluctuations in air temperature.

Channel: dimensions

The table below contains the characteristics of the U-channel channels (faces are located with a slope).

The following table contains the characteristics of the hot-rolled channel channels of grade P with parallel faces.

Legend:

  • t is the thickness of the shelf;
  • b is its width;
  • h is the height of the finished product;
  • s is the wall thickness.

Thus, the steel channel is a product designed to give the constructed structures higher stability. Such metal rolling takes over the entire axial load and evenly distributes it over its surface. Thanks to this, high rigidity and strength of the metal structure under bending loads are provided.
