Chisel plow: advantages, characteristics, types and reviews

The chisel plow (IF) is a mounted tool of a rather complicated design, designed for deep subsurface loosening of the soil. The width of the soil, and therefore the processing performance when using this tool increases by 1.8 times. Loosen the soil using a chisel plow to a depth of 45 cm.

Design advantages

The width of the strip when using this gun can reach up to 12 meters. Such plows are equipped with spring struts. Therefore, when using this tool, oscillations are created that provide additional loosening of the soil. Since each chisel plow stand is mounted on shock absorbers, among other things, the possibility of equipment breakdown, for example, in case of accidental collision with an obstacle, is excluded.

chisel plow

Most inverter models are complemented by a special gear or tubular roller. These plow construction elements are intended for breaking large lumps remaining after plowing and for leveling the field surface . It is not too deep to treat the skating rink - about 20 cm. If the plow is not originally equipped with it, it can be purchased separately.

Application advantages

When using a tool such as a chisel deep-ripper plow, you can get the following benefits:

  • reduction of labor costs by an average of 17%;
  • yield increase up to 30%;
  • reasonable cost.

Most often, the plow of this design is used for annual planned plowing with the classic technology of cultivating crops. But it is allowed to use it to combat soil compaction. In the latter case, the cultivation of the land by this implement is carried out approximately once every 3-5 years or once per crop rotation. The annual use of this tool in neglected fields with highly compacted soil leads to a significant improvement in the quality of the latter. The loose, moisture- and water-permeable soil becomes after three years of application of the inverter.

chisel plow

Chiselle plow can penetrate into the soil very deeply. Moreover, after its use, plant residues from the previous crop remain on the surface. This provides the formation of a large amount of humus. In addition, the straw blanket covering the field further prevents soil from drying out and protects it from wind and solar erosion.

When using simple reversible plows in the soil at the border of the arable and subsurface layers, a compacted layer is formed that retains water. This leads to the fact that even with a general moisture deficit, its runoff from the fields is significantly increased. A cushion is formed for several years under the weight of conventional plows. When using the inverter, since in this case the loosening is very deep, this compaction is very quickly destroyed (on some types of soils it goes much deeper). This feature, of course, can also be attributed to the advantages of chisel plows.

economic efficiency of the chisel plow

What happens to the soil when plowing

It is recommended to use a chisel plow in combination with a PM disc harrow . When plowing using these two tools in the soil, the most favorable conditions are created for the accumulation of spring moisture. The fact is that at a depth of 15-20 cm in the ground, in this case, the effect of cracking occurs. In this case, the lower layers (up to 50 cm) are partially shifted and loosened. IF plowing is carried out after one pass of the harrow, immediately after harvesting the predecessor.

Scope of use

IF plows are used mainly on steam fields (including on slopes) when cultivating crops. You can use them on any soil, except rocky, in all agroclimatic zones. It is allowed to plow using such a plow on soils subject to wind and water erosion.

In addition to cereal fields, the chisel plow can be used for deep soil cultivation in orchards and vineyards (between rows). Also, this attachment is often used to rejuvenate meadows and pastures or to improve the drainage properties of the soil.

Types of Chisel Plows

There are several models of IF plows. Structurally, they are practically no different. The difference is mainly only in the width of the capture band. You can find out exactly which technical characteristics of a particular model from the table below.

FC-2,3 and 4 models are used most often in agriculture. However, more productive chisel plows can also be used for tillage. The working width of some models can be 12 m. But the depth of plowing is usually less than 23-25 cm.

Manufacturers

Most often, Russian farmers use chisel plows of domestic production, since they are cheaper than imported ones. In our country, many companies produce IF: Yugprom, Rostelmash, BDT-Agro LLC and others. However, the most popular are the plows manufactured by the manufacturer Altai Engineering Plant. The products of this company are delivered to the market under the Almaz brand. The advantages of the inverter of this manufacturer include:

  • strength and reliability of the structure;
  • automatic cleaning of rollers during plowing;
  • ease of repair, etc.

Sometimes, of course, imported chisel plows are also used on domestic fields. Very good reviews from farmers deserve, for example, guns of the brand Lemken. Plows of this German manufacturer are distinguished by excellent build quality, high performance and ease of use. But they cost, of course, more expensive than domestic.

What tractors are used with

According to the recommendations of manufacturers, a chisel plow that plows to a depth of 45 cm can be hung on equipment with a capacity of at least 150 l / s. Therefore, such models are most often operated with tractors T-150, MTZ 1523, 1822, 2022, etc.

Of course, with a less powerful technique, you can use a chisel plow. MTZ 1221 "Belarus" (130 l / s), for example, copes with it very well. However, in this case, an inverter is mounted on the tractor, plowing to a depth of no more than 23-25 cm with a working width of 2.4-2.6 m. Also, chisel plows can be shock-absorbed with KhTZ-150K-09, VT-150D, New Holland TM 140 ”,β€œ John Deere 7730 ”and almost any other tractor models with a capacity of 80 l / s domestic or imported.

chisel plow instruction manual

Brief instruction manual for the chisel plow

Plowing using an inverter is completely straightforward. Before starting work, the tractor operator only needs to release the control lever to the free position. As a result, the plow will fall to the ground under its own weight. When plowing, the working body of the inverter is additionally supported by wheels. In some cases, the latter are made of metal. But most often, IF plows are supplemented by conventional support wheels with a tire and a camera. Their position, among other things, determines the depth of plowing. Turn at the end of the furrow according to the instructions should be made only after the plow is moved to the transport position.

Reviews about plows "Diamond"

The economic efficiency of the chisel plow, as can be seen from the foregoing, is very high. The frequency converter loosens the soil quickly and efficiently, and it is not difficult to work on the field with their use. Therefore, farmers and machine operators had an opinion about them, of course, only good.

imported chisel plows

As already mentioned, the most popular brand of chisel plows in our country is Almaz. Most machine operators find them very reliable. At specialized forums, agricultural workers even often note the fact that the quality of the Almaz plows is absolutely no worse than foreign frequency converters. This manufacturer is also praised for the relatively low cost of products, as well as for a rather wide range of products.
