Childhood

Artyom Vyacheslavovich was born in the summer of 1986 in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. No wonder Kazan is considered the third capital of the Russian Federation. The city has a thousand-year-old bright and unforgettable history, is one of the largest sports, cultural, educational, scientific, political and economic centers of the country.

Many people think: where does the young athlete have such a first-class form and strong training?

The fact is that Artyom Kosov, for whom rowing became a matter of life, got acquainted with professional sports from infancy. His parents were physical education teachers. It is also noteworthy that the mother of the future athlete is a master of sports in athletics, and her father is her coach. Naturally, parents in love with sports encouraged their son to intensify training, showing him the benefits of an athletic life and the beauty of an athletic body.

Getting secondary education, little Kostya devoted a lot of time to physical exercises. He studied running short and long distances, was engaged in judo and basketball, and did everything qualitatively, pleasing parental hearts with high indicators.

However, unfortunately, in adolescence, a boy had a misfortune. Due to a back injury, he could no longer run and jump.

Rowing

But the father did not want his son to sit at home and feel sorry for himself. He wrote it down for rowing, to the best Kazan coach - Aysl Mingazova.

How did Artyom Kosov himself react to this? Rowing was something new for a young man, new and incomprehensible. He meticulously attended weekly training sessions and took it easy as a hobby. During the lessons, he matured and became prettier: he gained weight slightly, increasing muscle mass.

However, after a couple of months, the beginner rower felt a taste for the craft. He liked to hear a dull splash of waves, to feel a slight even swaying of the boat, to feel short, fast and strong blows of oars against the water. Falling in love with rowing, Artem began to win.

The guy’s first victories were at the local level - he won the city competition and was sent to the All-Russian regatta. Having shown his talents and skills at the federal level, Kosov was accepted into the youth team, a year later became the world medalist in junior competitions.

Coach Change

Together with Mingazova, the young man several times occupied worthy places in world competitions. However, time passed, and it was necessary to raise the technical level.

The second coach came to replace the first - Sergey Ulyanov. He introduced Artem to adult rowing, teaching him to work with oars more professionally, like a man. Success was not long in coming - Kosov took first place in the Russian championship, glorifying his hometown throughout the vast country. Then came the world championships, where the young athlete did not occupy the last places.

Who is Artyom Kosov training with now? Rowing - this is a sport that is constantly evolving, growing, moving forward. But in Russia, unfortunately, it is not very popular, it belongs to the category of exoticism. Therefore, Artem Vyacheslavovich was looking for his third coach abroad - where they approach professionally and responsibly rowing. The third coach was Michael Spracklin from the UK.

Spraklin Technique

As Kosov himself admits, only Spraklin taught him to row for real. The guy compares his early training with ordinary physical education. But the classes with the English coach helped him to improve his level, improve his skill and result.

After the start of cooperation with Spraklin, the athlete had to change his role a little. Prior to that, he worked as a greenhouse, that is, he used two oars in rowing. However, an English instructor recommended rowing (one oar). In addition, there were innovations in the training methodology.

Spraklin’s teaching technique differs from the Russian one in that he works for the result, and not for the beauty of performance. In addition, Michael's training is characterized by thoroughness, sometimes even mercilessness. Although tiring daily exercises are exhausting physically, they bring genuine satisfaction and joy.

Before each competition, athletes not only train, but together with the mentor analyze their rivals and analyze the different nuances of the upcoming races. This helps to see their weaknesses, to find out what to look for during the swim, to work out personal tactics.

Thanks to this approach of Spraklin, Artem several times took the leading places in European championships, also took part in world competitions, where the best result was an honorable sixth place.

Personal life

Many are interested in what kind of life outside of sport does Artem Kosov lead? Rowing, as the champion himself admits, takes up all his work and all his free time. Fully devoting himself to training, practicing rowing and sparring three times a day, the young man simply does not have the strength for other hobbies and hobbies.
