World famous cocktails include a drink, which we will discuss later in the article. Interestingly, the sour-sweet Green Mexican cocktail with a banana flavor is in fact unrelated to Mexico. It was invented in 1996 by a bartender from Kiev. And in more than ten years it has become world famous.
The history of the cocktail "Green Mexican"
Once, a large amount of Pisang Ambon banana liquor was brought to one of the Kiev bars where Sergey Kadatsky worked, but it was not popular among visitors. And since the liquor needed to be sold, the bartender began experimenting with various ingredients to create a new tasty drink. Thus, the Green Mexican cocktail appeared.
Initially, it became widely known in Russia and Ukraine, and then, thanks to tourists, it quickly spread throughout Europe, eventually becoming famous in the United States. By the way, the name of the cocktail remains a mystery, we can only assume that it was due to the green color of the drink and the presence of tequila in it.
Ingredients
The composition of the cocktail "Green Mexican" is very simple and includes 3 ingredients:
- 25 ml of silver (transparent) tequila;
- 10 ml of lemon juice;
- 25 ml Pisang Ambon - green banana liqueur.
Some of the bartenders replace banana liquor, preferring the melon counterpart Midori, and, as a rule, the taste of the cocktail does not change much. However, the classic version involves the use of "Pisang Ambon" - liquor from green banana.
Recipe
To prepare this drink at home, you will need no more than 5 minutes. The main feature of the Green Mexican cocktail recipe is that you need to lay the ingredients in layers using a special spoon. Cooking it at home is very easy, as it does not require any specific skills and adaptations. For cooking, just follow the instructions below:
- Pour banana / melon liquor into a shot or glass.
- Then take a bar spoon and add lemon juice on top of the liquor.
- Pour the tequila in the same way - this will be the third layer.
After serving, you need to drink the cocktail in one gulp, because it tends to delaminate quickly, due to which there is a loss of taste. If desired, the drink can be enjoyed with a slice of lemon or orange.
The cocktail does not contain ice, therefore it is better that all its components are cooled. Please note that it is advisable to prepare lemon juice immediately before preparing the cocktail itself.
As you can see, the recipe is quite simple for cooking at home, but at the same time it looks very original and tastes good.
Color variety
At the moment, you can find many analogues of the described cocktail. And most often, the difference lies in one ingredient - liquor. So, for example, if you replace banana liquor with coffee, you get “Brown Mexican”, and if you take “Golden Strike”, you get “Golden Mexican”. They also use Blue Curacao, in which case it will turn out a Blue Mexican. The use of melon liqueur makes the cocktail more sweet and fragrant.
The described drink has a rich bright taste, layered texture. It is served in a tall thin glass called shot. By the way, it belongs to strong alcoholic cocktails. Due to its beautiful spectacular appearance and good taste, this cocktail is very popular in bars.
A common version of "Green Mexican" is a drink that includes components such as:
- 10 ml sambuca;
- 20 ml of transparent tequila;
- 10 ml of lemon juice (natural);
- 20 ml of liquor.
This option is suitable for lovers of stronger drinks. Sambuca gives a highlight to this cocktail.
