OJSC Mari Machine-Building Plant (Yoshkar-Ola) is the parent enterprise for the manufacture of modernized anti-aircraft systems of the S-300V series. MMZ is a strategically important object for the country, on which the defense capability of Russia largely depends.
Description
The enterprise is part of the Almaz-Antey holding, which is responsible, in particular, for the development, implementation, production and maintenance of advanced air defense products. By presidential decree of April 18, 2002, the plant was transformed into a joint stock company. Production is located at: 424003, Mari El, Yoshkar-Ola, ul. Suvorova, 15.
Historical reference
With the deterioration of the international situation in 1939, the Soviet government decided to build a duplicating enterprise of the Geodesy plant, far from the border, where they could produce equipment for aerial reconnaissance. The outskirts of the city of Yoshkar-Ola, the capital of the Mari ASSR, were chosen as the production site.
However, by the beginning of the war only pits were prepared for the foundations of buildings. In August, a number of evacuated optical-mechanical plants from Odessa and Moscow arrived at the site, and the necessary equipment was delivered from Kazan. While the enterprise was being built, the production process was organized in a former agricultural technical school. MMZ's birthday is considered August 25, 1941. They produced optics for tanks, artillery systems, anti-aircraft rangefinders, sniper sights.
The Second World War showed the superiority of radars against optics in terms of detection and tracking of air targets. The advent of jet aircraft contributed to the acceleration of the development of domestic radar for air defense. This was done at the enterprise. For these purposes, a major reorganization was carried out in 1949, new buildings were erected, and personnel were retrained. The groundwork created in those years, and today allows you to produce the world's best radar systems, means of suppressing and hitting air targets.
During the years of perestroika, the Mari Engineering Plant retained its production base. Dozens of workshops and support services are located on the factory premises. Today, the company is increasing the pace of production of civil and defense products.
Production
Today, the Mari Machine-Building Plant manufactures, modernizes, and maintains in operation 9S80M mobile reconnaissance points and their modifications. They are used as command posts of air defense tactical formations for controlling various class air defense systems: Tunguska, Shilka, Osa, Strela, Tor, Igla and others.
A powerful technological bureau operates at the Mari Machine-Building Plant, which can develop innovative products that have no world analogues. Many young people come to production. The backbone of the team is made up of experienced lower-level managers: craftsmen, production managers, technologists. MMZ specialists solve a full cycle of production tasks necessary for the serial production of unique products. Workshops today are fully loaded, workers receive a decent salary.
Products
For many years, the defense enterprise produced the Pechora S-125 air defense systems, today it is modernizing them. Undoubtedly, the main area of work is the production of S-300V air defense systems and its export version Antei-2500. These are some of the most effective air defense systems. They will be the basis of the country's air defense for a long time, because the more modern C400 and C500 are just beginning to appear in the troops, and their production in sufficient quantities will take a lot of time.
The capabilities of the S-300, which are undergoing modernization at the Mari Machine-Building Plant, are quite sufficient to provide reliable cover for military groups, strategic facilities, and industrial centers. They effectively resist all types of aeroballistic and aerodynamic targets, including ballistic missiles. The US production analogue of the Patriot air defense system is inferior to the domestic system in all respects.
Currently, MMZ is conducting several new projects. In particular, the development and implementation of:
- antenna posts;
- wave reducers ;
- phase shifters.
