What a huge territory of our country! And how many roads, routes, highways are in it, as well as an endless string of a wide variety of models, brands of cars and heavy vehicles. Each of them has registration numbers that are duplicated in front and behind the body.

When buying a personal vehicle, a happy car owner needs to register the car with the traffic police. After completing the vehicle registration procedure, the property owner receives state numbers. How to read state numbers
Each administrative region has its own car code. Until January 1, 1993, the number of codes coincided with the real number of regions - 89 pieces (from 1 to 89). But with the rapid growth of car traffic, there was a need to increase their number, for example:
- The following numerical values belong to Moscow: 77, 99, 97, 177, 199, 197, 777, 799.
- Moscow region: 50, 90, 150, 190, 750.
- The Republic of Tatarstan: 16, 116 region of Russia, and since 2017 the code 716 was added.
The numerical values in the registration number are from 0 to 9, but the digits 000 cannot be used. The letters that apply to the series are only those that are duplicated in the Latin alphabet. That is, such letters as W, H, D, etc., you will not meet, with the exception of state numbers issued in the Soviet years.
Numbering Number Series Procedure
Suppose the car owner received the numbers: T451OK of the region code 116. The next one after him will receive the numbers T452OK of region 116 and so on. When T999OK numbering is reached, the series is replaced by the next first letter. Thus, it will be U001OK.
When the first letter of the series reaches X999OK, the first and third letters are replaced by the following ordinal values, that is, it will be: A001OM 116 of the Russian region.
The second will be replaced by the next when the extreme value of X is reached in the 1st and 3rd letter of the series. It turns out that the last license plates before the start of the countdown will be X999. The next car owner will become the owner of A001RA numbers.
This numbering procedure is strict, with the exception of special series. This applies not only to the autocode 116 of the region of our country, but absolutely every subject of the Russian Federation.
When the limit is exhausted within one region, a new code is assigned. This is due to the large number of registered cars. Thus, several codes appear in one region. As it happened recently in the Republic of Tatarstan. Accordingly, all cities in it have a code 16, 116 of the Russian region, and more recently, 716.
Conclusion
Since the fall of 2013, there have been some changes in the registration actions with cars. Namely: it became possible to save the vehicle number for one car owner when changing one car to another. This rule has virtually eliminated the need for transit numbers, with the exception of traveling abroad by car. Including changes affected the possibility of registration and its removal in any unit of the traffic police and the subject of the Russian Federation, regardless of the place of registration of the owner of the car.
