As you know, in order to use Windows operating systems in full-function mode, it is not enough to simply install them on a computer. It is also required to activate the product using a special key. However, in systems of the seventh, eighth, and tenth versions, a failure sometimes occurs, the description of which indicates error code 0x8007007b. What is the reason and how to fix the problem, see below.
Error code 0x8007007b when activating Windows 10, 8, 7: causes
In addition to the activation error code itself, the notification contains a brief description of the problem. In general terms, it can be interpreted as incorrect syntax, or, more simply, entering an invalid key. This can be observed when a user tries to use a key intended for another modification for his version of the system, or simply incorrectly enters numbers and letters.
But the main problem is that the message indicates only error code 0x8007007b and a description, and there is only one button to close the active window at the bottom. It’s not clear to some users where to enter the key, if the system itself does not offer any opportunities for this? There is an exit. To carry out the activation process with the correct key, there are at least two simple solutions.
Error code 0x8007007b: how to fix? Method one
To be sure that such a situation is connected precisely with the lack of a license, first we will make sure that it really does not exist.
To do this, call the command line (cmd in the "Run" menu) and specify the execution of the special script slmgr -dlv in it. If the status bar of the license indicates that it is missing, we proceed to resolve the problem.
We call the "Run" console (quick call - Win + R keys) and enter the slui 3 command. In the window that appears, there is a special line in which you need to enter the desired 25-digit code. If entered correctly, the system will inform you that the activation was successful. If the user receives a notification about the successful installation of the key, but activation does not occur, and the message containing the error code 0x8007007b appears again, we proceed to the second procedure, which, in general, is not very different from the first.
Second ways
The second method for eliminating the activation problem is to use the above service, which was used to check the license status.
In this case, you should again turn to the command line, where both the activation command and the key are registered. It looks like this: slmgr.vbs -ipk 12345-12345-12345-12345-12345, where instead of the set of numbers shown in this example, you should enter the key value. After that, just press the enter button, and the problem disappears.
Please note that in both the first and second cases, the command line should be launched exclusively with Administrator rights.
A few words in the end
What is most interesting, a message containing error code 0x8007007b appears on all systems, but only in version 8.1 there is a button in the warning window, after clicking on which a window appears where you need to enter the correct value. But in general, both of the presented methods for activating Windows should not present problems for any user of any level of training.
