Rum is one of the most popular alcoholic drinks. Its history goes back centuries - we know about it since the time of the pirates, whose drink it was considered to be. Rum has a slightly bitter taste and a pleasant aftertaste, especially in good varieties.
It is customary to drink rum in piles, while putting a piece of cane sugar before direct use. This sugar differs from the usual one in greater hardness and slowly dissolves.
However, like any other alcoholic drink, rum is the basis for many alcoholic cocktails - from the most popular to famous only in narrow circles. The list of rum drinks includes Blue Hawaii, Pina Colada, Daiquiri and many others. However, the most famous, of course, is the Cuba Libra cocktail or, in simple terms, rum with cola.
The story of the birth of this cocktail is simple. Legend has it that one day an American soldier entered a bar and asked to bring him a glass of rum and a glass of cola. He drank them in one gulp at a time, after which he smiled, turned around and left. And the bartender looked after him for a long time and wondered if it was worth trying such a mixture. Having decided on this step later, he did not regret it, because the cocktail turned out to be very pleasant in taste, memorable and unusual. So one of the most famous and most popular alcoholic beverages in our time was created - a cocktail rum with cola.
To make this cocktail, you need a minimum of ingredients: directly dark rum, Coca-Cola, highball (a standard tall glass for cocktails), lemon and, if necessary, ice. When mixing a cocktail of rum with cola, the proportions should be observed as follows: for fifty milliliters of rum, you will need to add one hundred, two or three hundred milliliters of cola and one slice of lemon. The difference in the quantity of cola depends on tastes and on the desired degree of the final product, all these combinations are standard - one to one, one to two or one to three. The preparation process is as follows: a highball glass is filled with ice (it will take about three to five cubes), then rum is poured, which is then diluted with cola to the edge of the glass. The cocktail is mixed with a spoon, after which a slice of lemon is squeezed into it and placed on top. The drink is ready. The recipe is very simple and available for cooking at home.
Varieties of rum can be used to make a cocktail, but it must be dark rum. Also, the recipe can be slightly changed by adding more lemon to it or replacing it with lime. Some connoisseurs advise adding a little malibu to rum with cola to emphasize the great taste. The recipe in this case depends to a large extent on taste preferences.
And this is not only about a cocktail prepared at home - each bartender is free to prepare rum with cola (like most other cocktails) in different ways, and therefore the taste of the drink in bars and restaurants can vary. The only condition is that in the cocktail you should feel a clear taste of the alcohol included in its composition, in this case rum. Not only its smell should be felt.

There is also a recipe for making rum with cola, which uses spiced rum, is prepared according to the principle described above. White rum is usually mixed in more delicate cocktails. For example, it is mixed with sprite and lime; cranberry juice and freshly squeezed orange juice; with mint and chilled white tea.
