Russky Island in Primorye has recently become a real Mecca for tourists. It has all the necessary infrastructure: hotels, restaurants and shops, historical sites and motels. Not so long ago, on September 6, 2016, the opening of the aquarium took place on Russky Island (Vladivostok). This is not just an entertainment facility, but a whole scientific and educational complex.
Property Description
The main structure of the complex externally resembles a white shell of a bivalve mollusk, which, as it were, peeps out of the deep sea. The total area of ββthe aquarium is 37 thousand square meters.
The main reservoir is located at the facility, in which there is a tunnel for visitors 70 meters long. There is a dolphinarium with stands (for 800 people) and an arena. The total volume of water is 25 thousand cubic meters. There are also 135 separate aquariums, where more than 500 species of representatives of the water and near-water elements live. The complex includes parking and entry areas, engineering and defensive structures of the island itself, cultural facilities, historical monuments, research laboratories.
The oceanarium on Russky Island is the third largest such facility in the whole world.
Exposure and children's development
Representatives from all climatic zones of the planet are located on the territory of the complex. There are thematic expositions where only those species of fish that live in the waters of Russia, including the polar seas, are represented. Killer whales and whales are highlighted in a separate exposition.
The oceanarium on Russky Island has its own quarantine, where newly arrived representatives of the aquatic fauna are placed. A research and adaptation center operates on the basis of quarantine, where employees have the opportunity to conduct research without even leaving their city. The center has 5 research laboratories and 2 production laboratories. There is even a student laboratory where school-age children can study. Children can develop basic research, engage in applied sciences and educational activities.
A volunteer center operates on the basis of the complex, the members of which conduct socially and environmentally significant events, actions, and are engaged in research.
The oceanarium regularly conducts excursions, and not only for students.
Dolphinarium animals
The oceanarium on Russky Island has its own dolphinarium where not only bottlenose dolphins live and perform, but also fur seals, walrus Misha, Baikal seals, beluga whales, butterfly dolphins, Steller sea lions Ike and stingrays. All of them are wonderful actors and do not leave anyone indifferent to their performance. The administration plans to acquire a sea lion and other dolphins.
For an additional fee, you can plunge into the pool and swim with the inhabitants of the seas, take amazing pictures and gain positive emotions for several years to come.
Construction history
The opening of the aquarium on the Russian island was delayed for a long time. The initial project assumed that the complex would open in 2012, then the date was postponed for a year. By the middle of 2013, only 60% of the entire collection of living creatures was being collected; by the end of the year, construction work was only completed by 80%. As a result, the opening is again postponed for another year, and the complex opens only in September 2016. Even the presidents of Russia, Japan and South Korea come to the official opening.
The work of the aquarium was stopped almost two months after the opening, in November 2016. Official sources said the closure was due to maintenance work. Three animals died in the complex, the public is convinced that the employees did not adhere to the rules of detention, but management denied this information.
Now the aquarium works in the following mode:
- day off - Monday;
- Wednesday - school day;
- on other days, the doors are open for visiting from 10 am to 8 pm.
The last visitor is allowed into the complex 30 minutes before closing time.
The Seaside Aquarium on Russky Island is a real opportunity to meet with science and even make your own discovery.
