Corvette "Resistant" project 20380

Corvette “Stable” of project 20380 is a ship of the Russian Navy (with tail number 545) of the latest class, created in development of the class of “Gremyashchy” corvettes. It was developed at TsMKB Almaz, built in 2006-2012, and in the summer of 2014 it became part of the Russian Navy. In addition to him, the Baltic Fleet currently has three more corvettes of this project. With its displacement of 2,200 tons, the Stoyky corvette (like other project ships) is considered to be too large for its class according to the NATO classification and is more likely to be a frigate.

Appointment

Corvette "Resistant" project 20380 is multi-purpose. Such vessels are used for operations in the coastal zone, including the sea blockade, counteraction to enemy submarines and surface ships, as well as for fire support of landing operations. Corvette “Resistant” is part of the first batch of ships of this project, built at the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg and consisting of four ships. The second batch of seven corvettes will be built by the Amur Shipyard in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The Russian Navy has publicly stated that it intends to acquire at least 30 such vessels for all four main fleets.

Construction history

Corvette "Stable" was laid on the slipway of the St. Petersburg "Severnaya Verf" in the fall of 2006. Initially, its launching was expected in 2011. However, until the end of 2008, the corvette was not actually built due to financing difficulties, and sections of its body simply stood in the workshop for two years.

The situation changed after visiting the ship under construction in the fall of 2008 by senior officials of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. After almost four years of construction, at the end of May 2012, a corvette was launched into the water.

On July 18, 2014, the State Commission in Baltiysk signed an acceptance / transfer certificate for the new Stoykiy ship, the fourth serial corvette of project 20380. The name of the corvette was inherited from its famous predecessor, the destroyer of the Baltic Fleet, which defended Leningrad and Tallinn during the Second World War.

Corvettes Stoyky and Boyky, having joined the Baltic Fleet in 2014 and 2013, respectively, have already caused concern at the headquarters of the armies of the Baltic countries that are part of the NATO aggressive bloc.

General characteristic of the design of corvettes of the project 20380

Corvettes have a length of 105 m, a width of 13 m and a draft of 3.7 meters. Unlike other anti-submarine ships in service with the Russian fleet , the corvettes of this project are distinguished by the following qualities:

  • multifunctionality;
  • compactness;
  • low visibility for radars;
  • the widespread use of automatic systems;
  • The modular principle underlying architecture.

It is the modularity of architecture that makes it easy to modernize the armament of corvettes by installing newer weapon systems while reducing production costs. The life cycle of such a ship, designed for 30 years, will be characterized by a constant and high modernization potential.

Underwater hull

Corvette “Resistant” has a steel hull with a smooth deck, a bow bulb and fundamentally new contours of its underwater part. The combination of the bow bulb (the underwater part of the bow of the ship), and the new contours made it possible to achieve a qualitative leap in improving the speed of the ship - at speeds of about 30 knots, the water resistance to the movement of the corvette was reduced by a quarter compared to the traditional hull shape. This allowed, on the one hand, to reduce the power and weight of the ship’s main power plant, and on the other hand, to free up from 15% to 18% of its displacement for use under additional military equipment.

The ship’s hull has nine waterproof rooms. They have a combined bridge and a command center.

Corvette Add-in

It is made of composite materials, which are multilayer refractory fiberglass and structural materials from carbon fiber. Their use is a sign of the use of the so-called low-visibility technology for radars or stealth technology in the construction of the superstructure. With the ability to absorb and dissipate the energy of the electromagnetic radiation of radars incident on them, these materials reflect too small a signal in the direction of the signal source (radar) to be detected. Therefore, on a radar screen, a vessel of impressive size will give a mark corresponding to a small boat or even a boat.

At the stern of the corvette, a hangar for the Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter and a take-off and landing pad were made, which is an absolute innovation for Russian ships of such a displacement. The crew of the “Resistant” corvette includes about 100 people, along with the helicopter maintenance team.

Main power plant (GEM)

It consists of two diesel-diesel units (DDA), working through summing reducers for two propellers. Each DDA consists of two 16D49 diesel engines (one provides forward movement, and the second - backward) and a reverse gear unit. The economic course of the corvette is 14 knots, and the full one is 27 knots. In autonomous navigation, the “Resistant” corvette, whose photo in the sea voyage is shown below, can cover a distance of up to 4000 nautical miles.

corvettes persistent and lively

Corvette's power plant is low-noise due to the application of technologies developed on nuclear submarines. Due to this, the ship became invisible not only for radars, but also for passive sonars (noise finders).

In addition to the power plant, the corvette’s power equipment includes four diesel generators with a capacity of 630 kVA each to meet the ship’s electricity needs.

Corvette "Resistant": weapons and fire control system

The armament of the corvette is divided according to its purpose into:

  • anti-ship (artillery and missile);
  • anti-air;
  • anti-submarine.

All ship weapon systems operate under the control of the Sigma combat information system. It collects information from radars and sensors and provides a situational picture of the battle in real time. It also allows the ship to exchange intelligence with other naval units in the group.

Anti-ship weapons are represented by two launchers (PU) of the Uran-U missile system, each of which contains ammunition consisting of four X-35 anti-ship cruise missiles with a firing range of 260 km. The Uran-U launchers are located in the middle part of the ship’s hull.

The artillery of the ship is represented by the universal shipboard gun mount A-190 Universal. The caliber of its guns is 100 mm, the rate of fire (maximum) is 80 rds / min, the ammunition is 332 shots. Firing range up to 20 km.

The ship’s air defense is provided by the Kortik-M SPRAK mounted on the tank and two Ak-630M 6-barrel 30-mm gun mounts at the stern.

The corvette is equipped with two four-pipe torpedo tubes for launching the Frontier anti-torpedoes, capable of destroying both enemy torpedoes and submarines.

For close combat, on the deck of the corvette there are two machine gun mounts with a caliber of 14.5 mm and two grenade launchers DP-64 to repel the landing.
