The laptop battery does not charge

A laptop, as an autonomous (portable) computer, is equipped with a battery capable of multiple recharging, that is, a battery. He is required to have a large specific capacity and tightness. These requirements are currently best suited for lithium-ion batteries. Even in small devices, such as cell phones, the power consumption is quite high, and lithium batteries provide them with energy for a long time.

When using a laptop, it maintains a constant balance between mains power and battery power. This is done by a special driver, which is in any OS: Windows, Linux, etc. Control over the degree of battery charge is carried out by different methods. There are reasons why an objective assessment of the state of chemical batteries is in principle impossible. Therefore, several indirect methods are used. The easiest is to measure the voltage at the terminals. A more advanced method is counting the amount of electricity that has "gone" into the battery, in pendants or ampere hours. A combination of these methods can be used, plus a statistical algorithm that can be called a “degree of wear”. Manufacturers set a factor for their batteries, the value of which gradually decreases over time. This affects the degree of charge.

If the laptop battery does not charge , then this does not mean that it is necessarily defective. The system, that is, the power driver, may consider that it is already charged and will display a “100%” icon. Disconnect the computer from the network and use the battery until it is completely discharged. When the power supervisors (special chips that monitor the correct power supply to the processor, etc.) give a critical signal, the driver will record the full battery discharge, and then prepare the system for emergency shutdown.

Plug the machine back into the network without starting to boot. Look at the indicator located somewhere on the rim of the laptop case (not far from the power connector). If the laptop battery is not charging, then you will not see the indicator light. Usually during deep discharge it glows yellowish. Remove the battery and inspect its appearance. Clean the contacts and make sure that the battery is not swollen and cracked anywhere. Replace and start again. If again If the battery on the laptop does not charge , this may be a problem in the charge circuit in the computer itself. For diagnostics, try to take another battery or put this on another laptop. This exclusion method will accurately show the cause. Most likely, if the laptop battery is not charging, then it should not give a charge, in case of a malfunction.

If the process has begun, wait until the blue light of the indicator appears. Then you can start the machine without “stepping” the power supply with a double load - after all, the battery continues to charge. But now it works in recharge mode and takes less current.

Look at the power monitor in the system. For Windows, Linux, GNOME or KDE, in general, any “Desktop”, there is a small icon with a hint that shows the status: “charge / work from the network” and percentage of full charge. If the laptop battery does not charge fully for a long time, say, only 96%, then the intensive load on the computer can affect it.

Usually this happens when a laptop is used in several directions at once. For example, they listen to music and play, and at that time a movie is still being downloaded. And you notice that the processor is buzzing, the drive is warming up, the fans are blowing at full power. But, perhaps, the reason for everything is the elementary aging of the battery, and after a while it will need to be changed.

Thus, if the laptop battery is not charging, do not be upset, but carry out the simple manipulations that were described above.
