It was founded in 1864, a few years after the founding of the city, and from the very beginning it was the venue for the main city events.
Lenin Square (Khabarovsk)
The square is located in the Central district of the city, between the streets of Gogol, Pushkin, Muravyov-Amursky.
She changed three names and was reconstructed more than once in the entire history of her existence. Various festive events are held here, in the winter a huge New Year tree is set. Every year, a festival of ice figures is held at this place, to which masters from China, Japan, Korea and other countries come.
History of the square
The history of Lenin Square in Khabarovsk is closely intertwined with the history of the city. When the city was founded, there was a dense forest. Over time, it was cut down, the territory turned into a wasteland. With the growth of the city, empty land was occupied by the city cemetery. In 1880, it was proposed to move the cemetery outside the city limits and the territory again turned into an abandoned wasteland.
Time passed, the city expanded, the city authorities became interested in the wasteland. Soon there appeared a city square, which was called Mykolayiv. Gradually, it turned into a central one: there was a brisk trade, there was a stock exchange of cabmen. The place around the square began to be actively built up: a post office, Mykolayiv school, Real school (currently the city hospital No. 3). Unfortunately, the photo of Lenin Square in Khabarovsk, the former Nikolaev parade ground, was not preserved.
After the Revolution of 1917, the area was renamed Freedom Square, and in 1925 a monument to Lenin V.I. was erected on it.
In the post-war period, in 1949, the architect Mameshin E.D. A project for the development and redevelopment of the area was developed. A year later, it was covered with asphalt, the monument to Lenin was moved from the central part to the erected stands, and a large fountain was erected.
In 1950, the square was renamed Stalin's Square, but seven years later, by the decision of the City Executive Committee, it was renamed Lenin Square.
The second large-scale reconstruction of the square was made in 1998. Asphalt was replaced with pavers and granite tiles, a large fountain was moved to the center, portable flowerbeds, benches were installed, and lighting was carried out. The purpose of the square has also changed: it has become a place of rest and holding cultural events.
Lenin monument
Lenin is depicted in a cap, he laid his left hand behind the lapel of his jacket, and holds his right in his trouser pocket.
The ceremonial laying of the first stone of the monument took place on January 22, 1925, and by the October holidays the finished sculpture of the leader arrived. The author of the work is Honored Sculptor of the USSR Manizer MG
The height of the sculpture is 6 meters. On the pedestal of the monument, three tablets with quotes of Lenin were fixed earlier , but during the first reconstruction of the square, when the monument was moved to the stands, two tablets were lost.
During the second reconstruction, they wanted to remove the monument, but then decided to leave it. The stands were dismantled, and lawns were placed in their place.
The architectural appearance of the square
Lenin Square (Khabarovsk) is surrounded by buildings that differ in architectural style, number of storeys and scale. The Krai Government building, the Central Hotel, banks and other architectural structures adorn this part of the city.
A local attraction is the Singing Fountain. In the evening, multi-colored lights turn on and jets of water begin to βdanceβ. An amazing sight!
Despite the serious work, the architects managed to preserve the historical flavor of the square.
