The main diseases of goslings and their treatment

goslings diseases
Great damage to the au pair is caused by goslings, and their treatment should be carried out in a timely manner. Otherwise, young growth will lag behind in development and growth, or there is a risk of losing the livestock altogether. To prevent such consequences, it is necessary to carry out preventive measures and properly care for goslings.

Causes of disease

Goslings ailments are a consequence of violations in the feeding regimen, conditions of detention (overheating, frostbite, bruises, poisoning, etc.). In young animals, infectious, parasitic and fungal diseases are observed, and their symptoms appear at the age of 6-12 days. To prevent them, the following conditions must be observed:

  • use only high-quality feed;

  • feed in a timely manner (preferably by the hour);

  • drink only with clean water;

  • the room where the goslings are kept should be clean, dry, warm and without drafts, it is desirable that there are no other birds in it.

Goslings diseases and their treatment

Consider some diseases and methods of dealing with them.

Viral enteritis is a disease characterized by damage to the intestines, heart system, and liver. This disease leads to the death of goslings up to 95% of the total number. They are infected through food, water, air, and the virus is transmitted from one bird to another.

diseases and their symptoms

Symptoms of disease and preventive measures

The oppressed look of goslings, half-closed eyes, trembling, yawning, lack of appetite speak of malaise. Sick birds are crowded and mostly sleep, they develop diarrhea with blood and are stunted.

To prevent this disease, goslings need to vaccinate both adults (one and a half months before the laying of eggs), and young animals (under the age of 28 days). After a couple of weeks, you need to repeat the procedure.

Cholera or pasteurellosis is characterized by high bird mortality, when in a particularly acute course of the disease, apparently healthy goslings suddenly die. Sources of infection are the same as in the above case.

Symptoms of this disease goslings and their treatment

Sluggish state of the bird, secretion of mucus or foam from the nasal openings and beak, temperature up to 43 degrees, diarrhea of โ€‹โ€‹gray, yellow or green color, thirst and lack of appetite. All this entails the death of a bird. This disease can also take a chronic form, then adult geese begin to limp, and their wings sag.

diseases and their symptoms

In order to prevent the development of the disease, vaccination must be carried out, and if the goslings are still ill, then those who have symptoms will have to be killed, and the rest are prescribed antibiotics and biomycin for prevention.

Parasitic diseases, as a rule, have a chronic form and also cause considerable damage to livestock. Pathogens include small parasites, such as:

- ticks (Persian, chicken);

- bedbugs (mainly bed);

- parasites that feed on feathers and the upper layer of the skin.

For prophylaxis against parasites, do not allow wild birds (sparrows, swallows or pigeons) to nest in the houses, in addition, you should regularly inspect the birds and their habitats, so that when parasites are detected, take the necessary measures in time. For this, goslings are treated with cyodrin and dibroma. It is also necessary to process the room.

This is not all diseases that affect geese. Many of them lead to 100% death of birds, but it is important to prevent them. Only then will it be possible to maintain the livestock or to completely avoid the goslings' disease, and their treatment will be more effective if the above conditions of detention and feeding regimen are observed.
