The future writer was born in October 1814. Before the new year, the whole family from Moscow returned to Tarkhany - the estate of a grandmother in the Penza region. Misha was left without a mother when he was not even three years old. The father wanted to take his son with him, but his grandmother made a will in such a way that everything would remain to her grandson only if he lived with her until adulthood.

At the age of 14, Mikhail became a pupil of the Noble guesthouse operating at Moscow University. At the same time, he became interested in poetry and began to write himself. His first teacher in this matter was S. E. Raich. Mikhail studied for 2 years, and the boarding school was closed. In the fall, Lermontov at the same university entered the moral and political faculty. Mikhail did not adjoin any circle and generally stayed away from all students.
In the fall of the following year, when Lermontov moved to the Faculty of Literature, his father died. Mikhail almost did not attend lectures at the new department and did not appear for tests at the end of the year.

In January 1837, the country was shocked by the news of the death of Pushkin. Mikhail Lermontov responded to this event with the poem Death of a Poet. Since the verse was political in nature, the poet was arrested and exiled to the Caucasus. From this day he lived only 4 years. And in this short period of time, Lermontov created those works that later became considered his best poetic heritage.
This is “Mtsyri”, “Demon” and many picturesque, musical, versatile poems, which prove the unlimited power of his talent. In 1839, Lermontov finished work on the novel “A Hero of Our Time”.

In the end, the poet dreamed of leaving military service and completely indulging in literature, starting to publish his own journal. But he was only allowed to stay in Petersburg for some time. And then this became possible thanks to the petition of influential persons and E. A. Arsenyeva, his grandmother. After the visit, the poet went on his last trip to the Caucasus, but essentially - in exile. He was full of gloomy forebodings. The reason for the quarrel leading to the fatal duel was insignificant. The poet himself was almost sure that the fight would not take place. However, Martynov was not going to refuse him. He inflicted a mortal wound on M. Yu. Lermontov during this unfortunate duel in Pyatigorsk. It happened in the summer of 1841, and the following spring the poet’s ashes were sent to Tarkhany, a family estate.
