What does typing mean?
The solution to various problems can consist in creating various forms and standards that should be followed when working with technologies and production processes. Standardization and development of universal solutions is done by typing. The meaning of the word means a direction in construction, design, which allows the construction of various objects on the basis of standard projects. The development of several basic principles significantly speeds up the construction process or increases the overall system performance.
Typification in construction
What does typing mean for a builder? Most likely, the use of specially designed types, rules and norms, standardized tools and designs. Such typification is designed to significantly increase the return on the builder’s actions, increase the efficiency of the involved machines and mechanisms, and accelerate the construction of the construction site.
Separate elements of typification have been known since ancient times. Archaeologists find traces of the reuse of individual fragments of structures, duplication of standard methods of construction. The use of individual elements of typification took place both in the buildings of the Middle Ages and in the classical structures of the New Age. But typification played the biggest role in the architecture of post-Soviet countries. Industrialization required a huge influx of labor - and therefore, the construction of standard and economical multi-story buildings. And so the famous “Khrushchevs” appeared - typical projects of the 50-70s, which, thanks to typing, were built in a short time in all corners of the former Union.
Typification in standardization
Standardization spans many related technical disciplines. Thanks to this science, metering devices show the same values, work tools are designed for the same work, and the products offered to customers are certified according to the same parameters. Typification is the establishment of uniform rules and norms in the production of certain goods, tools, and so on. This process develops in various areas of technology standardization, is taken into account in the development of normative documentation, and affects standard methods of calculation and budgeting.
Typing in programming
What does typing mean in this case? Programming, in essence, is the process of communication between a person and a computer. Like any communication, such a conversation is possible only with the help of a language, which is a tool for translating human commands into signals that are understandable for a computer. All standard programming processes are conducted in one or another language. A huge role in the classification of such languages is played by typification. The meaning and meaning of this concept make typification a basis for using existing languages and creating new ones.
Two groups of programming languages
In general, existing languages are divided into two large groups:
- typeless languages;
- typed languages.
As you can see, typing is the very guideline by which a huge number of existing languages can be divided into simple and understandable signs. Typeless languages - assembler, Brainfuck or the same Forth - are designed to solve a narrow range of tasks. They cannot be adapted or improved. Another thing is the languages in which typing is present. These are Scala, PHP, C, Python and Lua, as well as some other tools.
Typed Language Structures
Typed languages are much more complicated and interesting. Therefore, there was a need to divide them again into several groups according to certain criteria, in which, again, typification plays an important role.
- Languages of dynamic or statistical typing. Separation by this feature is carried out according to the finite types of variable functions. Statistical typing is still at the compilation stage. That is, when processing a command, the compiler already “knows” where to look for one or another type. Dynamic typing is another matter. The meaning of the types is clarified already during processing of the command. Statistical typing example: C, Java, C #; dynamic subgroup represented by: Python, JavaScript, Ruby.
- Languages of strict and non-strict typing. The first does not allow the language to mix different types in the expressions used - for example, it is impossible to subtract infinity from a unit in such a language. Languages with weak typing may well make an implicit conversion, though with a significant loss of accuracy. Examples of separation by this attribute: strict: Python, Lisp, Haskell, Java; non-strict: C, Visual Basic, JavaScript, PHP.
- Implicit and explicit typing. Separation is done through the compiler. An explicitly typed language creates used and new variables explicitly. In implicit languages, this function lies with the compiler. Examples of languages with explicit typing are C ++, D, C #. Implicit: Lua, PHP, JavaScript.
As you can see, typing plays a big role in various activities. Given the growing processes of globalization, its role will only grow. It will take a lot of effort and time to typify all existing and future processes and technologies, bring them to one denominator, thereby greatly facilitating the lives of people in all corners of the Earth.
