Over the past twenty years, poultry farming in Russia has become a thriving industry. It is expected that in 2018 the total volume of meat of slaughter weight will exceed 4.9 million tons. At the same time, poultry exports are constantly growing and already almost equal to imports. And all this after the almost complete destruction of the industry in the 90s of the last century. Development went along the path of creating cage poultry farms for the production of chicken meat and eggs.
Today, the industry has reached a new level. They are developing a national program in which a special role is given to increasing export potential and creating industrial farms for the production of turkey, goose and duck meat. The supply of more exotic species of birds is gaining momentum: guinea fowl, quail, ostrich.
Poultry farming in the Samara region
The Samara region has historically played a significant role in agricultural production. Firstly, it is the production of grain and pome crops. A significant share of the market belongs to the cultivation of cows and milk production. Unfortunately, until recently, large poultry complexes were not enough. In 2013, poultry farms in the Samara region produced only 30% of the required meat volume, the rest was imported from other regions. By 2015, the share of local production increased to 53% and continued to grow at a rate exceeding all-Russian indicators. In 2016, poultry farms of the Samara region in the first half of the year put on the market 296 thousand tons.
It should be recognized that the industry needs to be significantly strengthened. All these years, only Timashevskaya Poultry Factory LLC was the driving force behind growth. For a large area with its own forage base, this is completely insufficient.

Despite all the difficulties, lack of financial resources, imposed sanctions that impede access to new technologies, the government pays great attention to the development of poultry farming in the region. A new large-scale project of the Samara region - the Sergiev Poultry Factory is being implemented.
A feed mill is under construction, where there will be an elevator, a workshop for the production of full-fat soy. We can talk about its early commissioning.
Work is underway to prepare the production site for the main production of the poultry farm. Samara region and investors have already invested at least 4.2 billion rubles in the project.
Incubation problems
When commissioning a new facility in the Samara Region poultry farm, they will receive a new powerful incentive for further development.
For the stable operation of medium and small enterprises, it is necessary to constantly replenish the flock with new birds. Russia practically does not produce its own highly productive chicken crosses. Almost the entire incubation egg is imported from abroad to replenish the mother flock. Only large enterprises have such an opportunity. The rest work as secondary consumers.
So far, opportunities to increase the production of chicken and eggs remain limited. Of the enterprises involved in the breeding of other species of poultry, only such an exotic organization as Ostrich Dacha can be noted. Enterprises producing turkey, goose, duck meat are simply absent in the region, not counting small farms.
